Great Pinners To Follow

Have fallen into the black hole of time-sucking that is Pinterest? We try to keep up, but we also need to do things like sleep, eat and run Design Public! But when we allow ourselves those wonderful moments to get inspired by the latest design ideas people have curated from around the web, we find ourselves drawn to these busy Pinners’ boards over and over again. And we wonder, when do they have time to eat or sleep!

sfgirlbybay / Victoria Smith. Smith’s bohemian modern taste and style has been one of our favorites for many years, all the way back to the early days of blogs and Flickr. Since then, we’ve seen her apply her unique personal style to different abodes around San Francisco, and most recently, we’ve been following her fixing up her new house in Los Angeles. She’s got 142 boards to keep track of, so know that once you hit her page, it will be a long time before you leave. Block out a good amount of time!

Tyler Goodro. We’ve had our eye on the guys behind’s great eye for years, and his Pinboards keep us busy repinning.

Jonathan Boivin. Time and time again, we find ourselves getting lost in Jonathan’s boards, whether we want to be inspired by travel to incredible places, gorgeous interiors or street art.

Five Faves Around the Interwebs

Ah! I think my time this week has been sucked up by a big design blog catch up! Sorry for the lack of posts! However, here are a few of the things I’ve been checking out lately:

1) I found out I’m an eco-dummy by taking this How Eco-Saavy Are You Quiz over at Real Simple.

2) I’ve been reading about heroic chair restorations over at Manhattan Nest. Can you believe that this abandoned Eames chair:

Was rehabbed with lots of elbow grease, love, and a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and turned into this?

3. Loving this story of a sofa transformation over at Wood and Faulk. He’s my hero.

4. Catching up on a few eps of Secrets From a Stylist on Emily has the best personality, and I really like her approach when she works with people.

5. Now I swear I don’t watch any of those shows that are all about cakes, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Jealous Curator’s collection of cake images over at sfgirlbybay:

Flickr Faves on Friday: sfgirlbybay’s Gravel Gray Wall

While I saw this in our Fresh New Spaces Group, I had already seen it in sfgirlbybay earlier this week. Victoria has painted her room “Gravel Gray” by Benjamin Moore (BTW, she says it’s not quite as dark or as blue as it is appearing in her photographs). She’s also sleeping on DwellStudio’s Chinoiserie bedding. Finally, she’s looking for some input on which artwork to buy for this room. Check it out and chime in on her post!

Flickr Fridays: Black and White

Earlier this week I was catching up on sfgirlbybay (she’s moved! She has an ENTIRE new place to decorate!), and I love her chalkboard dining room. She says she’s not done yet, but I’m loving it as is:

How different from that light-filled dining area she had in her old place. Doesn’t the wood table look like a completely different piece in this context? And I recognize that painting, and now it seems to have been made for this space – instead of some formal portrait of a great-great-great ancestor in a white collar looking stoic, we have the cool James Dean-ish dude. It makes me break out in a smile just looking at it.

Anyway, this image, combined with Ali’s image featured yesterday, had me scouting for black and white images in our Fresh New Spaces Group. I’ll pop in with some favorites throughout the day today. Here’s one from Flickr member J.E.N.:

and two more from Flickr member TheMatt:

I highly recommend checking out J.E.N. and TheMatt’s photostreams – it’s hard to choose an image to feature because there are so many great ones!

Inspiration Monday: Make a Mosaic of Flickr Faves

Posted by Becky | View all posts by Becky

Yesterday I was totally inspired by sfgirlbybay and finally made my first flickr mosaic after reading this post. Coincidentally, I think Victoria was the first person who ever asked me to be flickr buddies years ago! She may have also been one of our very first “flickr faves” here at Hatch. Her photography and the photography of those in her group and blog continue to keep us all inspired week after week, and now year after year. Anyway, I think I gave every single one of these photos a “mark as fave” star when I saw them in the sfgirlbybay flickr group.

To practice being a mosaic master like Victoria, try using big huge labs. Even I figured it out easily, and I am absolutely terrible at this stuff.
