2012: Resolve to Stay Inspired

Posted by Becky | View all posts by Becky

Ugh. I’m old enough to know I’m never going to stick to any hard and fast resolutions, like losing weight or giving up vices, so I’m not going to sit here and tell you how to clean your closet or reorganize your shoes. However, one thing that keeps me inspired to complete some projects around the house is an ant infestation.

Another thing is looking at beautiful pictures of other peoples’ much more clean and organized homes. So here are a few from Flickr. Thanks to everyone who continues to add their pictures to our Fresh New Spaces Group. Whenever I want a nice little escape from whatever I’m working on, I head over there to get my creative juices flowing.

Love this clean white kitchen from Flickr member aindizain. My kitchen island has NEVER looked so good, but maybe after admiring this picture I will make it look like this.

As for the bedroom, it is NOT that hard to make up your bed everyday. If you find that it is, consider sleeping European-style, with only a bottom sheet and duvet with cover. Rooms like this make me want to get out that weird vacuum cleaner attachment and get those bunnies underneath the bed. Image from Flickr member Tomas Pearce Interior Design Consulting Inc.

Of course, an entryway is the spot where your interior will make it’s first impression, so I like to look at this one with the cool map for inspiration. Posted by Flickr member photo.OP.

Finally, thank you to Danielle over at The Style Files for continuing to collect some of the most beautiful images out there! This living room will help you resolve to have more fun with your décor this year.

If you make one rezzie this year, resolve to stay inspired. When you feel that inspiration waning, seek some out.

Flickr Faves on Fridays: Serene and Scaled in The Netherlands

Posted by Becky | View all posts by Becky

Scaled properly that is. Check out how perfectly scaled Flickr member irideeën’s furnishings are. For example, the size of the mirror over the fireplace, and the size of the curtains:

Don’t you just love how airy, light, and sophisticated this is? It’s just so obvious it must be in Europe. That desk is absolutely to die for.

The other end of the room is slightly more casual:

and when we turn another ninety degrees, we’re surprised again; this time by some envy-inducing built-ins and a peak into the next room:

I kinda dig the way irideeën made me work for it, piecing together the room shot by shot. Nice work irideeën! Oh, and irideeën has a blog here, be sure to check it out. Also, irideeën lives in The Netherlands. After seeing this pad, I don’t think anyone else can make a herringbone floor as beautifully as the Dutch can.

All three images from Flickr member irideeën.

Flickr Faves on Fridays

Posted by Becky | View all posts by Becky

Oh I am having a lot of trouble narrowing down my picks for today’s flickr fave. I caught up with our Fresh New Spaces group earlier this week and my finger is sprained from hitting “Add to Faves” so many times. Thanks to everyone who is adding their photos to the pool, it gave me a ton of inspiration on a yucky rainy day when I thought I was burnt out on design!

While I had trouble picking, I realized I was in awe of flickr member uydurrukcu’s eye. I was hitting “add to faves” over and over again, which sent me to her Profile and on to her blog. Posting from Turkey, she is great at finding fresh spaces, bathed in white with clever graphics and mixes of vintage, antique, modern and a bit of IKEA thrown in. Here’s a sample of some of the images she’s posted to our group lately:

Flickr Faves on Friday: Ivy Style Does White

I am always struck by flickr member ivy style33’s well, style! She is constantly styling her home, figuring out inexpensive ways to make her home look extremely expensive, and she is a master of print and texture. This white corner is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. The fact that it’s mostly white makes one notice the texture on that shade, the mobile strand, the lampshade. The fact that she framed all of her artwork in the same frames makes them a cohesive collection:

Yea! Ivy is keeping us up to date with whatever she has going on in a blog – Check it out here! To get your own piece of Ivy Style, check out her Etsy shop.

Flicker Faves on Fridays: Anne-Lynn’s Lovely Living Room

Posted by Becky | View all posts by Becky

I recently spied this photo in our Fresh New Spaces Group on flickr, from flickr member lakbdesign/fergusandme She left this caption underneath: “I found this screen at my favorite consignment shop last week and promptly fell in love with it – it has sailing ships and charming flagged towers and pretty, graphic clouds and whitecaps, and best of all, a saltire.” I love the screen too. Its a unique element that draws the eye right to it and gives the room an eclectic jolt. I love the way it’s placed and that it’s not a typical framed painting. I also love the playful relationship it has with that gorgeous chandelier. The room is soft and calming, and full of interesting textures. It’s such a perfect balance, right down to the basket in the fireplace.

Just for fun, let’s check out the maritime details revealed in this angle:

Somehow this room has a kitschy seahorse lamp in it (LOVE IT!), yet it manages to remain very sophisticated. Thank you for sharing these lakbdesigns/fergusandme! Oh, and to learn more, check out Lynn-Anne’s blog. Her house is amazing – I’ll give you a teaser: Polar Bear Wallpaper.
