Here at Design Public, we’re gearing up for back to school and homework time with a series of guides to workstation products. What we’ve kept in mind with our curation is not only lamps that will function well and fit comfortably on a desk, but also designs that will not only appeal to your schoolkiddo but also to you. These task lamps are stylish, modern and will last you for a long time after your child has flown the nest. In fact, the only danger is that you’ll be tempted to hijack these for yourself.

It’s the perfect time of year to spend time outside, enjoying the crisp fall air and perhaps enjoying the warmth of an outdoor fireplace or firepit. Next time you’re at the grocery, be sure to scoop up some graham crackers, Hershey bars and marshmallows so you’ll be ready to make some gooey treats.

As we head toward winter, it’s also a great time to scoop up deals on outdoor furniture. Now through October 14th, the unique and sophisticated pieces from Coalesse are 15% off. What I love so much about their lines is that while they can stand up to the elements outside, they also fit right in indoors as well.

Coalesse Emu Heaven Table

For example, the woven metal mesh of the Emu Heaven Table by Jean-Marie Massaud adds gorgeous modern style to a patio, but will also add texture to an eat-in kitchen, works as an occasional table in a living room and can serve as a unique nightstand next to a king-size or California king bed.

The Emu Retrouve High Back Chair has long been a favorite of mine; the first time I saw it in a shop window my heart fluttered. Is it weird that my heart flutters over chairs? I don’t care. Its eclectic wire shape mixes things up and makes it a standout; if everything you have is all straight-lined and modern, you need a few curved elements to create juxtapositions. I nominate Retrouve.

By the way, it’s not all about outdoor furniture. While Coalesse has a lot of options for furniture that will stand up to the elements, they are also creating pieces that work for home and office and home office. These pieces make working from home feel nothing like working from a cubicle.

Coalesse Bindu Guest Chair

The Bindu Guest Chair, for example, is a chic and comfortable office chair, but also works wonderfully as a dining chair or as and occasional chair anywhere around the home.

Coalesse Denizen Side Tablet

The Denizen Side Tablet can tuck right in next to a sofa or chair and then swing across when you want some couch comfort while working on your laptop. It’s also perfect for a martini and almonds too.

Ugh, I still haven’t begun to get my tax info together yet! I think this is the weekend it’s going to have to happen, so I thought I’d motivate with a little home office/organization photo:

making life easier

Thanks so much to flickr member almostbunnies for posting it to our Fresh New Spaces Group! It’s a lesson in what a difference great containers can make, as well as how you compose them. I love the way she’s grounded the bottom with the woven baskets, mixed in some favorite objects, and I am very jealous of that vintage Ivory Soap box.

For this week’s Flickr fave of the week, I am loving these floating shelves from Jeremy Levine Design. I’m also digging the way they used the stacking shelves on the left side. Thanks for adding it to our Fresh New Spaces Group!

By the way, this was an addition and remodel to a residence. The house was built around three trees and includes: grey water recycling, storm water capture, recycled coal fly ash concrete, solar energy, recycled lumber, passive cooling, thermal rock wall, and mobile shade panels.

Well, January’s quite over, the Superbowl is over, and it may be time to get back into those weekend projects. One part of making your home office a place where you want to spend time is to be sure and add artwork that inspires you. Whether it’s nautical charts, a big inspiration board, etsy prints or a vintage blackboard, why don’t you get out a hammer and nails and get cracking on this one? It won’t take long but it will make a big difference!
