Mini Makeover: 10 Easy Ways to Perk Up Your Bathroom

Renovating a bathroom can be one of the most expensive home projects you might embark on. But there are plenty of inexpensive and labor un-intensive ways to give your bathroom a zshush and make it new to you. Here are 10 of the easiest ones.

1) Swap out your shower curtain. While you’re at it, give that liner a wash or demote it to paint tarp and get a new one.

2) Throw down a new bath mat. You can opt for one that’s made to be a bath mat, or chose a small area rug like a flat-weave or Oriental carpet.

3) Mount some better storage. One thing that bums me out are shampoo bottles, cosmetics and other toiletries that don’t have a proper place to be put away. Adding a new shelf or cabinet can help you keep this potential clutter organized and handy.

4) Upgrade your accessories. “Toilet brush” and “sexy” are not usually words you hear in the same sentence. But there are plenty of well-designed utilitarian bathroom accessories like wastebaskets, toilet paper roll holders, soap dispensers and more on the market today.

5) Hang a new mirror. Something as simple as a new shape or frame color can switch up the look of your bathroom. You can even do some mirror swaps from around the house; perhaps the one over your dresser is ready for a new spot, and vice-versa.

6) Stick it to the window. Add texture and privacy to your bathroom window with adhesive film, like this one from Emma Jeffs.

7) Toss your dirties into something fresh. Adding a hamper with a fun pattern, texture or color (or all three) might even make you want to do laundry.

8) Make sure everything has space to hang. Lately I’ve found I don’t have enough room for the luxury of multiple towel bars. Hooks are a space-saving option.

9) House that soap in something different. Don’t limit yourself to what the shops declare is a proper soap dish. Raid your kitchen pantry or display shelves for a saucer, small plate or other china that will fit a bar.

10) Don’t shy away from a little bling. Why not add some glamour to your bathroom? You and your toothbrush deserve it.

Andy Cohen’s Got the 411…and a Harry Allen Roller Stop

Posted by Becky | View all posts by Becky

I loved seeing the Harry Allen Roller Stop on Watch What Happens Live! last night. I also loved that instead of a three-part reunion, all the Real Housewives of Miami got was an hour-long episode of WWHL, because like all shows based in Miami, it sucked. I call it “The Miami Vice Curse.” No show based there will ever succeed, unless it manages to come up with a cooler theme song than Miami Vices’, which is impossible. But I digress, as usual. Anyway, I’m always noticing the weird changing of accessories in Cohen’s cluttered clubhouse, and this one was right next to his head for the entire episode. My friend Kristen is dying to get her hands on that colorful encyclopedia set; I love his swivel chairs. I wonder if Charo gave him those maracas?

By the way, this winter at a cancer benefit, I put five raffle tickets into a bucket and my friend’s cousin Owen put in one. The prize was tickets to Watch What Happens Live. I lost. I’m still pissed.

Makeup! Get these men some face blotters and powder.

Columbia Forest Products Alexander Girard PLYprint® - Love Heart

I know a major round of holidays just ended and the last thing anyone wants to think about is another holiday. I also know that a lot of people are not too gung-ho with what will soon be coming our way…Valentine’s Day. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but the fact is V-day is approaching and whether you are super, semi or hope to be chummy with your love he/she probably wants a small token of appreciation whether you like it or not. So, I thought I would collect some of my favorite Design Public Valentine’s Day-ish gift ideas…

For the guy/gal you feel a super strong attachment to, one of these may symbolize your love. You’d be surprised by how many pieces we have of two people attached to one another…
