Makeover Your Bedroom with Area {A Giveaway!}

If you’re not already familiar with the amazing modern bedding from our friends at Area, then you should remedy that, pronto.  Area is a small independent company that creates products for the modern life.  They have an incredible line of furniture and bedding that is based on the modern Scandinavian concept of good design for everyday living.  Area started as a collection of screen-printed cotton duvet covers and has expanded immensely since their inception in 1990, and now they make a wide variety of products such as organic cotton sheets, linen duvets, and blankets made in baby alpaca.

I was able to speak with Area’s designer, Anki Spets, on the phone about a month ago and was struck by her dedication to a product that encompasses beauty, simplicity, modernity and practicality in design. Her talent for imbuing her products with both refined design sensibility and a human touch is what makes each collection truly distinctive.

Anki and I spoke about the most important place in the home – your bedroom.  A bedroom should feel comfortable and peaceful, and your bed is the place where that comfort begins.  I was recently researching Feng Shui for the bedroom and stumbled across an article which states “a ‘good looking’ and well-balanced bed is very important in creating a perfect feng shui bedroom. A good mattress, solid headboard and high quality sheets from natural fibers are also very important in creating harmonious feng shui energy.

What does your bedroom, and namely your bed, look like?  Are you creating a peaceful environment for your mind and body to rest and recharge or do you have a mish-mash of bedding products that just make you look, well, confused?

Area wants to help you by offering one of our very lucky readers the chance to do a little spring cleaning in their bedroom, and give their bed a complete makeover. The winner of our giveaway will receive the following from Area - 1 fitted sheet, 1 flat sheet, 1 duvet cover, 1 blanket, 2  pillow cases, and 1 body pillow with insert.  That’s a value of over $1,000.

To celebrate, we’re also offering 15% off of Area’s new EDITH & SWEA lines which are both gorgeous and decadent.  Also, don’t let the giveaway stop you from purchasing something – if you win the contest and you’ve purchased the bedding, we will fully refund your money – so make sure you snatch it up now while it’s on sale!

Ready to enter – we have lots of ways to win!  See the entry form below — good luck!

I have a confession. I’m in love with Pinterest. I can’t stop pinning. I can’t help that I find so many PINteresting things over there that I spend all of my spare time on it.  I think I may need a PINtervention.

Too many puns?

Anyway, the whole staff here at Design Public has had so much fun with Pinterest in the last few months, we thought we’d launch a contest to bring our favorite peeps into the mix (that’s you)!  Introducing Design Public’s first ever Pin It To Win It Contest!

Interested?  Here’s how it goes down -

  1. Create a board on Pinterest titled “Dream Home with Design Public”.
  2. Pin a minimum of 10 things to your board that show us what you’d love to have in your dream home (or what your dream home looks like!).
  3. At least 5 of the items on your board must come from Design Public (meaning products on our site – not items on our Pinboards.  The whole site is your oyster – we have thousands of products.  Check it out.) – the rest can come from anywhere you’d like.
  4. When you’re done, fill out this short form to submit a link to your board and you’ll be entered to win $250 gift card to Design Public.

That’s it.  Super simple, and totally fun.  Be sure to spread the word – we’d love to see as many boards as possible!

By the way, be sure to check out our very own “Dream Home with Design Public” board for some inspiration to get you started!

And don’t forget – the only official way to enter is to submit your link to our form when you’re done building your board!  Happy Pinning!

Brand Spankin’ New: MASH Studios Storage Platform Bed {$100 Giftcard Giveaway}

Christy

Do you like what you see above? Me too. This is the MASH studios LAX series storage platform bed. If you’re a fanatic about modern design you’ll not only like this platform bed for it’s simplistic appearance but also love the fact that there are 8 built-in rolling drawers. Say goodbye to scary under-the-bed chaos!

Now, if this were my platform bed, those drawers would be filled with various items. PAJAMAS, duh! My second thought was that every time I put shoes on while getting ready I’m sitting on my bed so I would definitely relocate my sock drawer. For the days I plan to workout at 5am (ha!) I’d have a drawer filled with exercise clothes. Some other items I thought would be helpful to have bedside are extra blankets, medicine and a flashlight. As you can see, this platform bed will free up space in your closet and dresser and help make your life more convenient and organized!

Also, this platform bed can fit a queen size mattress with a little over-hang as seen in the picture, but has a major bonus for all of you leggy-types – it also fits a California King mattress! Of course, then you won’t have the sexy platform surrounding the bed but hey – you can’t have it all!

Each drawer is 22 inches long—that’s 4 drawers on each side that are almost 2 feet long. That’s seriously like having 2 extra dressers worth of storage! You won’t know what to do with so much room!

For all of you design buffs, we have an exclusive bonus for you – the first 10 of these gorgeous storage platform beds that we sell will be signed by the designer himself – making this piece a collectors item!

Go check out the MASH Studios storage platform bed and get one for yourself before Spring cleaning sneaks up on you!

$100 Design Public Giftcard Giveaway

Leave a comment here telling us what would you fill your platform bed drawers with and you will automatically be entered to win a $100 gift card to Design Public! One entry not enough for you?  Pin the MASH Studios Storage Platform bed above to Pinterest and leave us another comment with a link to your profile and you’ll get a bonus entry!   Tweet about this contest with a link to this post OR share this contest on Facebook for yet another entry (and be sure to leave another comment letting us know).  That’s a grand total of 3 ways to enter – and this contest will only run for a week  - so hurry and tell us what you would do with all of that storage!

(Contest ends at 11:59 pm PST on February 27, 2012.  No purchase necessary to enter.  Winner to be chosen at random and contacted on or before February 29, 2012.  Please leave a valid email address so that we may contact you if you win.  Your email address will not be shared.  Winner has 72 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen.)

Kontextur Flash Sale and Giveaway!

DesignPublic.com

Take a look around your bathroom. What’s holding up your toothbrush? Lately I’ve found that all the fat-handled toothbrushes I buy don’t fit into those traditional toothbrush holder holes anymore, and mine tends to sit sadly over the sink. A cup tends to get a weird cement-like mixture of water and toothpaste in the bottom, turning it into yuckola.

However, all that can change. The Viktor Toothbrush Holder by Kontextür makes a great gift and will add some shine to your bathroom. We are holding a flash sale for the next four days (that’s December 12-16) for 35% off all Viktor Toothbrush Holders. These come in a set of three fun shapes, and you can choose from 18K gold, real silver

…or black nickel. They also can hold your razors the same way!

To celebrate our fun sale, we’re also giving away two other awesome Kontextür products – one lucky reader will win a Kontextür Rubber Duck (a new twist on a classic!)…

and another will win one of these chic and modern Kontextür Tissue Boxes!

So, you’re asking yourself – what do I have to do to enter this contest?  Well, here is how you can win!

Mandatory Entry

  • Leave a comment telling us why you’d like to win.  Maybe you like design.  Maybe you have a kiddo that would love the duck.  Whatever it may be – we want to hear it!

Bonus Entries (1 entry each)

Legal disclaimer:  Thanks for entering!  This contest ends at 11:59 pm PST on December 16, 2011.  A winner will be chosen at random using random.org.  No purchase necessary to enter or win.  Please enter a valid email address at time of entry so that we may contact you if you win.  Winner has 72 hours to respond or another winner will be chosen.

Two, Make that Three, Quick Notes…

One, don’t forget to comment on the David Stark post for a shot at winning his gorgeous book! Right now, those who have commented have a one in sixteen chance of winning, which is not too shabby!

Two, check out this Jane Fonda inspired room over at Decor Demon. Remember that crazy lady singing during the workout video? It’s etched on my brain forever, but luckily since reading this post, the song going through my head is “9 to 5″ …it’s all takin’ and no givin’ they just…use your mind…ahhhh Dolly. How about a Dolly Parton room next Brian? You are one of the only design blogs that has text I am dying to read, and it makes me laugh every time. Oh, and we’re glad you didn’t add Jane’s mug shot, as this is an object from our design drinking game.  It seemed to pop up in every other Met Home and Elle Decor shoot for awhile there. I’m not sure if one stylist was taking it from shoot to shoot or if it was just that popular!

Third, I almost forgot to tell you, Thom Filicia is speaking at SCAD Atlanta at 7:00 tonight. It’s in the Digital Media Center. I am trying to figure out where that is, as the only SCAD phone number that ever seem to pop up are for the admissions office or ShopSCAD.
