If you are a domino magazine junkie, you’ll appreciate this…their first book titled Domino: The Book of Decorating hits store shelves today. Whoo hoo! The book is a room-by-room guide where domino’s editors share an array of insider interior design tips, expert shopping strategies and their experiences decorating their own spaces.

If you are curious about the book, flip through a number of pages online to get a taste for the visuals, content and tips.

When Domino folks are not busy writing for their magazine or book they are preparing for the upcoming Domino Bazaar which will be held at the H.D. Buttercup in Los Angeles this coming Friday-Sunday (Oct 17-19). If you need 20,000 square feet of inspiration, classes, design consultations or just an excuse to shop…this is a major opportunity.

Now I just need to learn how to be teleported to SoCal this weekend…

If you are in the Chicago area and/or are a design/innovation/tech junkie, the WIRED NextFest event in Chicago’s Millennium Park may be right up your alley. From what I have seen the event has a lot of groundbreaking design work that could potentially foreshadow what we’ll be seeing and using in the not so distant future. Some of the highlights include “advances in sustainable design, next generation healthcare, interactive art and games, and humanoid robotics.”

“Don’t just sit – Hoverit” is the slogan of a two-person British design team who proclaim this chair to be “the first in a series of magnetic hover furniture.” The design visually reminds me of a mix between the hover board scene from Back to the Future and a dental chair, but Read the rest of this entry »

Blu Dot founders

If you’ve ever been curious about the brains behind Blu Dot and maybe what life is like in Minneapolis…a really good time to go check both of them out would be next week around Wednesday the 24th, say 7:00pm-ish, at the Minnesota History Center, 3M Auditorium. Blu Dot founders Maurice Blanks and John Christakos will be giving a lecture titled: “There’s no “I” in design.” The premise of the lecture: “focus on what’s really important: collaboration, camaraderie, and clarity of form.” The talk will be an introduction to the exhibition at the College of Visual Arts featuring Blu Dot’s designs, furniture, concepts, and personality, starting September 25th and ending October 18th.

I just hope one of them arrives to the lecture in a squirrel costume.
