Yup, I’m just letting you all follow me around the web today. Of course there is usually a longer journey that would be funny to map, from Twitter to Tumblr to Facebook with a little break for Bedazzled Blitz along the way…Anyway, this picture makes me want to turn my dining room into a painting studio.

I love perusing Erik Johnson’s portfolio online, and this one in particular made my heart happy today. And you all know I don’t usually say goofy sweet things like that, so it must be true!

Flickr Faves on Fridays: Another Motel

Ken McCown’s photo inspired me to search “motel” on flickr and it is a REALLY fun photographic subject! So many fabulous patio chairs, kitschy signs, great compositions, nostalgia, Wigwams/Tepees we saw Oprah and Gayle stay in on their road trip, bright colors and just plain old Americana. It makes me want to hop in the car right now with a cooler full of sammies and sodas and hit Route 66!

The composition reminds me of a Diebenkorn painting. The rust, the faded colors, and the weeds make it so beautiful. The combination of colors is dreamy beachy to me – palm green, sea blue, off white with a few touches of pink and hay – it’s so serene, isn’t it?

Unfortunately, The North Shore Motel was bulldozed in 2008, but at least jody9 was able to grab a turquoise tile and some blue painted stucco from the remains!

Flickr Faves on Fridays: Hotel Hokitika

Ken McCown is one of my all-time favorite flickr contributers, and this shot shows you why. Isn’t it striking? I would love to blow it up and cover half a wall with it! Actually, it works at every size. I think what I love about it so much is that it almost looks like a series of film frames. Because the chairs, drapes, and reflections vary a bit, each hotel balcony looks like it is its own frame, and in this film the chairs are dancing with each other. Or something like that! P.S. Interior Styling Group on Flickr

As I traveled the web today I came across more good news for those of us who need interior photography inspiration. I was reading Real Simple: Simply Stated and found that Holly Becker has started a group called Interior Styling on flickr. It’s for “interior stylists and those who either want to become one or who simply enjoy decorating their own homes and who are looking for fresh ideas and inspiration.” Check it out here. In other news, I completed step one of my photography goals by finding my digital camera batteries and charger and plugging it in. Baby Steps…Baby Steps.

Inspiration Monday: Interior Photography by Andrew Gregory

Yesterday I posted an interview with Andrew Gregory over at Houzz.com and I wanted to share it with you as well. Andrew is great at taking interior shots, and one of my goals for 2010 is to do a better job of taking better photos. Step one will be to figure out where I hid the battery charger with my cell phone batteries in it. Step two will be to take Holly Becker’s blogging class. I feel like I’ve plateaued with the blogging a bit and could use a shot in the arm and some more interaction with other bloggers – I’d love to meet you and check out your blogs – introduce yourself in the comments section if you are interested! Our blogroll needs and update as well and we’d love to add more design bloggers. While working on steps one and two, I’ll keep hoarding foreign glossies, checking out the photographers featured at Desire to Inspire, and looking to people like Andrew Gregory and those of you who add your own great photos to our Fresh New Spaces group on flickr!

This weeks flickr fave comes from our Fresh New Spaces Group. It’s from flickr member souvenirs du passe.The space is beautiful in its simplicity, and the light in the photograph is just beautiful.

O.K. As I was working on this post, I realized that this flickr member is Paper Flower Girl, whom I was just reading about on decor8 a few days ago. The world of the interwebs just gets smaller and smaller the longer you are on it! Be sure to check out her Etsy store, her blog, and her entire flickr photostream, which is now a favorite of mine (especially the sketchbook page images).

Inspiration Monday: Make a Mosaic of Flickr Faves

Yesterday I was totally inspired by sfgirlbybay and finally made my first flickr mosaic after reading this post. Coincidentally, I think Victoria was the first person who ever asked me to be flickr buddies years ago! She may have also been one of our very first “flickr faves” here at Hatch. Her photography and the photography of those in her group and blog continue to keep us all inspired week after week, and now year after year. Anyway, I think I gave every single one of these photos a “mark as fave” star when I saw them in the sfgirlbybay flickr group.

To practice being a mosaic master like Victoria, try using big huge labs. Even I figured it out easily, and I am absolutely terrible at this stuff.

Modern Inspiration: The Front Walk

The front walk – it’s your first chance at making an impression on visitors. Since more and more crackheads are knocking on my door asking for money lately, I have thorny roses blocking mine. However, if you want to let visitors feel welcome and let them know that you are groovy, you do what Jenn Ski did. We are LOVING the way she interpreted and installed the idea behind these photos.

Monday Inspiration

Sorry, it’s technically Tuesday and has been for 40 minutes here on the east coast, but I was out of town and didn’t get my blogging act together too much before I left town. This morning I woke up to this, and it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in awhile:

So this is right off the deck on Stockbridge Bowl in the Berkshires. The mountain in the background, I think it’s called Mount Lenox, or Lenox Mountain. I only wish one of us would have had a real camera so that we could have captured it better, but my camera phone was better than nothing!
