We’ve been expecting for a while now, and early this morning at around 2 AM (wouldn’t you know) we began to labor on our site. The labor was short — about an hour or two max — and at the end of it we brought two beautiful bouncing new categories into the world. We think they are both adorable, and the Baby category even looks a lot like my business partner Sina.

We are going to celebrate this wondrous occasion all week long. How? Well we put balloons on the mailbox outside of 300 Brannan here in SF, but some kid popped them about an hour ago. (Apparently he didn’t know it was Kids and Baby Week at Design Public.)

So in lieu of the balloons, here’s what we’ve got on tap this week:

• ‘Baby Blogapalooza 2005.’ During August on our blog, we will be hosting ‘Baby Blogapalooza 2005′! We asked all the top parenting blogs to guest-post on Design Public for the week. The subject? Kids and design, of course. And to make it interesting, we will alternate their posts with posts from contemporary baby and children’s furniture designers. Read more about the event here!
• Stylish Nursery Looks. Want to decorate a nursery or child’s room, but tired of the same old looks? Our design staff and guest contributers are going to reveal several new looks that will start your brood off on the right foot. Here’s a sneak preview.
• The Crib Buying Guide. What should you look for in a crib? Besides the baby? That’s right, safety. We surveyed the experts and put together a Guide to Choosing a Safe Modern Crib to ensure you make an informed purchase.
• Fresh new design from new designers! This week we’ll reveal several new looks for nursery bedding, children’s bedding, children’s furniture, and nursery furniture. So stay tuned to what’s new on our site.
