Whoa, Nelly. The other day I got to work to find a package on my desk. I immediately ripped through the packaging (actually, I opened it tactfully) to find two treasures…I can’t wait to share!

1.) The printed version of the blog, A Year of Mornings. I have followed this blog from the beginning and thought: a.) Man alive! The images are amazing and b.) Why don’t more people do this? If you are not familiar with 3191ayearofmornings.com/, the premise is simple: two gals live 3191 miles apart (Portland, Maine and Portland, Oregon) and document their mornings by posting one photo to a shared blog every weekday for a year. The women have only met in person once thus their friendship is solely maintained online. The book is visual eye candy and from a design perspective, very inspiring. Take a look!

And the second book:

2.) To Each His Home. Compared to A Year of Mornings this book is a bit quirkier. You won’t see as much of an emphasis on the little details of each day but more how a home has evolved into its own entity over time. The homes in this book are not the product of magazine influences or professional interior designers. Instead, they are expressions of how a marionette maker, a retired union steamfitter, a painter, an inventor, a former Golden Gloves welterweight champion, a visual merchandiser, and a retired stay-at-home mother of seven have made their homes their own. The photography is awesome! A sneak peek:

Now to the goods! Thanks to the Princeton Architectural Press we have two sets of each book to give to you! Tell us what makes your home an extension of you? Is it a collection, a color, a favorite chair, the kitchen, the bathroom, a trinket, an art piece etc? Submit a comment to this posting and we will announce the two randomly selected winners next Tuesday, Nov 18th. If you have a photo, even better (but not required)… post it to our Fresh New Spaces Flickr group and include a link with your comment.

P.S The Princeton Architectural Press publishes so many amazing design/art/architecture-centric books…I would highly suggest picking up a copy of Catalog: The Illustrated History of Mail Order Shopping (my new favorite book). I have to share an image, this book is so good:

I’m just nuts about Mrs. Blandings. I don’t know how I missed this charming Kansas City-based blogger’s writing for so long.

I don’t know how it took me ten days to find fellow, the new online design magazine from decor fellow blogger James Saavedra. Thanks to Habitually Chic for the tipoff.

Check out the list of the most inspiring design books of all time from O At Home magazine. I’m such a dork; I circled the ones I already have, which added up to ten. I was really excited to see Luis Barragan, Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown and J.B. Jackson included on the list, but was disappointed that landscape architecture was not represented more.

Bummer! The Farnsworth House, in spite of the plinth it sits on above the ground, is majorly flooded. To make a donation towards repairs, click here.
Design Bloggers in Print! The New York Times did a huge feature on design bloggers yesterday, and included some of my favorites, like Jennifer Dwyer from The Peak of Chic. Congratulations! Hey, you know what’s weird? Wordpress has the word “bloggers” underlined right now like it’s not a word. It has Wordpress underlined as well. What’s up with that?

Hey Everyone. I realized last week that I keep up on what’s going on here at Design Public via The Design Public Newsletter. In fact, I used to write the newsletter and then I found there was so much design information coming in from our employees, designers, and customers that it grew into this blog. The current “Design Pro Weekly” newsletter, now helmed by my pal James, product and merchandising expert extraordinaire, spolights new products and new designers as soon as they are added to our site.

If you want to keep up with what we’re up to at the company but a weekly e-mail from us is too much we also have our “Best Of” bi-monthly newsletter. Of course, we value your privacy. We will not give your email to anyone, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

We only have a smattering of items available, but the stuff that is there is a steal, no doubt. How often do you come across a $1300 Matteo Cashmere Wrap for under $400? Or, an Emeco Kong Chair for under $700? I am not going to even get into the Blu Dot Modulicious Bed.

If you are not in the SF area, I might suggest booking a flight around the date of January 30th (the one and only pick up date). I have heard a few airlines have some pretty smoking deals at the moment. Just kidding (kind of).

Check out what Sample Sale deals you can’t let pass by.

Also, a friendly reminder that this is the LAST weekend to tour the home.

The Sunset Idea House is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The final day to view the home is Sunday, January 27. General admission is $20; $15 for seniors on Fridays. No children younger than 10. The house is located at 3029 25th St, San Francisco, CA 94110. Parking is extremely limited. Free shuttles will be offered from the San Francisco General Hospital parking lot. For information, call (800) 786-7375 or visit the Sunset Web site: www.sunset.com. Please be courteous to Sunset House neighbors when viewing the home (i.e. do not block driveways, leave a mess, cause a raucous, etc.).
