I just received this email from Hatch pal Given Campbell. You may recall when we featured Given and her custom wallpaper awhile back – a lot of exciting things have happened for her since then. Right now, she is up for the Idea Wins mega prize. Show your support by voting for her here. Be warned, you have to go through a page or two promoting Microsoft software to get there, but the site design is pretty cool – I love the NYC skyline buildings that pop up and the entrance to the voting booth.
from Given herself:
Hi!
I wanted to tell you about some really big news that is happening to
me. Last November I entered a contest being held by Microsoft to Read the rest of this entry »

This one comes compliments of a design aficionado who writes one of my favorite blogs, Design Milk. I am in love with this this floor. To learn more about it, check out this entry in Design Milk . Thanks for all your contributions to the flickr group, Milktahd!
Oh, P.S., It’s really fun to look through her photo-documented home improvement journey in her My Home flickr folder. She’s come a L-O-N-G way from those original house tour photos!

This week’s photo comes to us from Beth Herzhaft , a professional photographer in L.A. who is new to our flickr group . This photo really made me laugh – it’s called "an uneasy truce." I’m not sure which one of these patterns is waving the white flag, as they seem equally, ahem, strong.
I contacted Beth to see where in the world this was taken, and it is from a hotel in Palm Springs (my guess was Reno). She says of her work "what I seek to do in my urban and suburban landscape work is to reveal in a poetic manner things we so often take for granted or ignore. I am not at all interested in the generic ‘beautiful’ images or in the ‘decisive moment.’ Instead, I inhabit the space between ironic and heroic imagery."
For more of Beth’s photos, check them out here. I am looking forward to learning more about how Beth lives and what her space is like in an upcoming customer profile.

We first met Amber when she was buying her first house and was trying to find the perfect bedding. When I looked through all the fun pictures she sent I knew she’d be a perfect candidate for the customer profile . Fast forward a few years later, and this wizard do-it-herselfer is hitting the pages of The Christian Science Monitor . The story highlights Amber and the help she’s given and received over at Apartment Therapy . Amber is also the blogger behind myaimistrue and is a regular contributor to our Flickr group, Fresh New Spaces . Amber, it was fun to see you in such a prestigious newspaper, and it’s been a blast watching you find, restore, and perfectly place all of your treasures!

Recently, Anna Chai from HGTV’s “Small Space, Big Style” contacted me through our “Fresh New Spaces” flickr group. She was impressed with all of the photos we’ve all been sharing, and wondered if we knew of any good spaces for the show. I started having deja-blog and realized that indeed, I had shared this information with you a while back, but SSBS is hungry for more entries again!
