Update: We have a winner — Brieanne from San Francisco! Congrats!
Attention moms and moms-to-be. Okay, this pertains to some of you gents as well. Here’s a chance to win something fashionable, chic and practical: A Petunia Pickle Bottom Scout Walkabout Carrier! Have a look:

Yup, this thing is pretty neat. I could see myself donning this for a Sunday morning stroll through the West Village…Café Americano in one hand, NY Times (or something sophisticated like the Davinci Code) in the other, and my Mini-me out riding point man. Just like the picture…

Petunia Pickle Bottom Scout Giveaway
Now, considering the fact I don’t actually have a “baby”, a “girlfriend” (no prospects either ha ha – laughter slowly giving way to tears here), I figured it best to give this to someone who could use it: You.

Wowzers, all of the eulogies were so heartfelt and emotional! I think some true tears were shed. Domino, you certainly touched our hearts and homes. Yes, that was utterly cliche but I had to say it.
Ok, now I’ll cut the chase. The randomly picked winners of the Domino book giveaway were Barbara (commenter #18) and Miss Ford (commenter #28). I’ll be contacting both of you today! Thanks to all who wrote such creative eulogies. R.I.P Domino.

Last Sunday it snowed five inches, this Sunday it was about 75 degrees and sunny. It inspired me to start flipping through Garden Design. There were a few images I tore out (for my non-existent inspiration books that I will never get organized enough to put together properly) before recycling the issue; thought I’d share:

Kyle Schuneman of Live Well Design’s moss chair.

Water Jasmine trees in Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden in Thailand. It’s like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory coming to life.

David Stark’s recycled shredded paper topiaries adorning the tables at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum’s 2007 Awards Dinner. I am obsessed with these – brilliant, beautiful, and so appropriate for the occasion!
Also, CONTEST ALERT! Garden Design is sponsoring a contest to recognize when great design meets ecological responsibility. Click here to find out the details.

Athens GA has always been a cool town – not only the birthplace of great bands, but also a place where visual arts and architecture are celebrated. For example, right now they are in the middle of You, Me, and the Bus phase II. After phase one, four artist-designed bus shelters were constructed around town. The competition for the eight additional shelters is wrapping up as I write this. This is a perfect combination of public art form applied to an everyday function. Such shelters are usually banal and uninspired.
Has your town had its version of the Cincinnati pigs, the Chicago cows, the Outer Banks dolphins, what have you? I’m hard-pressed to find a city that hasn’t had some version of that project. Isn’t this shelter project a much better and original use of public art funds? What types of public art do you have in your neck of the woods? Would these shelters make you a little more likely to want to take the bus?
