So guys, it’s the last day of January; did you complete your closet cleanout? I decided I had better put my sweat equity where my mouth was and follow my own advice. I finished the deep cleaning but I did not do the whole color coordinating and sorting shebang. I’m here to tell you, it was gross. I did not realize how many dust balls could collect on shelves, the floor, the mouldings and my shoes; UGH!
Anyway, I finished most of it, but as an Aries, I have a really hard time completing things. I love to dive into projects but struggle to finish up those last details. For instance my bathtub is currently full of extra plastic hangers and I never going to complete that project where I take pictures of all my shoes and past them on the boxes. However, when the mid-point of the project makes two bedrooms and a bathroom look like the following pictures, you are motivated to get as close to finished as humanly possible, if only so you can go to bed that night!
One of many rewards of finishing all of this? Shipping off several boxes to an eBay trading assistant who is going to convert my too-small clothes and shoes into cash for me. Part of my hoarding problem is thinking I was actually going to do this myself.
Also, I pulled a Joan Crawford and banned the wire hangers from my closet. I hit Target and bought a bunch of those flat velvety hangers that save space and replaced the wire and plastic ones. I took all of the rejects to my dry cleaners and she was so happy and grateful that her face lit up, and then she did my alteration for free as a thank you. It was an unexpected bonus to this project. Another reward was finding a few wonderful pieces of clothing I forgot I owned that were hidden in the smush of stuff.
This brought up a great tip; I now keep two bags on my closet floor – one for giveaway clothes and one for those wire hangers that sneak their way in from the dry cleaners. Round them up and bring them back whenever you go.
Did any of you complete a project this week? Please tell us about it in the comments section!
