Look! Mini Area Bruno beds! Anki Spets, founder of Area, was asked to design a table for the DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) Dining by Design event held in NYC. Anki designed a table setup with 10 miniature Bruno beds with Area bedding and little figurines in the beds reading the NY Times (the table sponsor). She used different Area fabrics to tile the background of the booth.
They also gave each diner a piece of clay to be creative during dinner (a great little ice breaker!). Nice show, Anki! Love it!
Program your DVRs, set your TiVos and get the VHS tape ready to record, Kiersten Hathcock from Mod Mom Furniture will be on this Friday’s (4/1) 8pm/7pm central episode of Shark Tank on ABC. In the preview above you’ll see Kiersten for a second say “Everything is riding on this.” Ohhhhh the suspense! A hint as to how it went down, ABC put out a blurb that says “sharks fight over mother’s furniture company.” Gooooooo Kiersten!
I love the way Flickr Member Sweet Something Design has arranged this tablescape. It has a bold graphic base, between the black and white tablecloth and bold green tray. It adds natural elements via the white tulips and coral, and some vintage ephemera underneath the magnifying glass. It’s a perfect balance – Bravo! Thank you for adding this shot to our Fresh New Spaces Group!
My alma mater always gives The Thomas Jefferson Medal of Honor in Architecture to the most amazing designers in the world (and they always do it on my birthday, since TJ and I share a birthday), and this year it is one of my favorite architects/artists of all time, Maya Lin. And I cannot go. I’m extremely bitter about missing it. But way to go UVA and Maya Lin. I’m so sorry to miss this!
This image is of Lin’s Storm King Wavefield. Awhile back, The New York Times featured photographs by Librado Romero, where he documented this landscape at different times of day through the seasons. They still have the slideshow up on their site – I recommend checking it out.
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Jenn Ryan of Reclaimed Lighting here in Atlanta and seeing her work used throughout her beautiful home. Jenn tracks down vintage bubbled glass mason jars and turns them into unique light fixtures. Check out the chandelier in her dining room:
Also, she created similar fixtures as pendant lights in her kitchen:
More information on Jennifer and her amazing light fixtures is here. She collects all kinds of vintage pieces to turn into lights, not just mason jars. I can’t wait to see what she finds next!
