Well, inspiration came late this week, because on Monday I was in Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard in the hot sun taking pictures with my phone that don’t do the eclectic and playful cottages in the Campground justice. It took a ferry, a shuttlebus, a car ride, a taxi, a ferry, a shuttlebus, a flight and a ride home from a friend to get back to the laptop, and it was totally worth it. The bright colors, the creative trim work, the exuberant windowboxes, the front porch culture and most of all, the rocking chairs create such a distinct look. Some of the communities that have grown out of the era of the camp meeting are about the cutest places I’ve ever seen, and they always seem to be in the greatest locations. I’ve spied them from time to time in magazines like Cottage Living – some are still tents or are half-tent/half-cottage hybrids, some are now beach cabanas, others are cottages. Do you have a favorite? Do you have pictures of it? If so, please share with us in the comments section!
