Organizing Seminar Giveaway!

When it comes to blogging, I’m not too big on giveaways, unless it’s something I really believe in and would want to win myself. This is one of those times. The folks over at Simplify 101 were so pleased to see their e-course mentioned this week, that they are offering FREE enrollment in a week long e-seminar to two lucky Hatch readers! Because it starts in a week, the deadline for entering will be at noon on Wednesday, May 19. Just leave us a comment telling us you need help getting organized and you’d like to participate and we’ll pick new names at random on Wednesday. If you want to give any of the details about your mess, PLEASE SHARE! I’d love to hear it, because it makes me feel better about my own organizational stumbling blocks. You’ll need to have some time cleared each day to dedicate to getting organized. Here are some details and links:

    My boyfriend just moved in with me… so now we have less space than before. It seems like there just isn’t enough room for everything we have/need. I need help!

    Trust me, I need help organizing my house! We are mid-construction, with no kitchen, boxes everywhere (packed for a 6 month job which has no end in sight) and chaos in our house. Our contractor took our money, built a mess on the back of our house that has to be fixed, and declared bankruptcy. We just want to get back to normal – and organizing this mess would help!

    My husband and I just moved into our first house 2weeks ago. We brought ‘junk’ with us b/c we thought ‘what if we need it??’ and neither one of us is good at getting rid of stuff. To add the clutter both my Grandmothers passed away in the last year and I brought stuff from their homes b/c I couldn’t part with it. Most of the stuff is just that-stuff not sentimental or antiques. We definitely need help!

    Living alone with lots of hidden to the eye storage; blessing or ticking bomb?
    I can think of 6 closets that need help. and oh my garage. I’m kind of afraid to go home now.

    I recently had reason to go into the basement and not only did I not put stuff away, I decided that my E.T. doll really belonged in the living room instead of storage. I’m moving backwards.

    1 toddler, 1 small business, 2 busy parents, 1 live-in grandmother +1 NYC-sized apartment = YES, we need help organizing!

    We would definitely like to participate – we just moved into a new apartment and our goal of not just shoving everything into closets has meant that we are still living out of boxes. Some suggestions on how to get started would be a huge help!

    I live in a historic row house in Baltimore. No closets, no storage space. I also have 2 small boys with their legos, matchbox cars, and action figures AND I am a graphic designer who stores samples and inspiration and crafts like there is no tomorrow.

    Clutter definitely creates clutter in the brain, and I have come up with and thrown out about 5 organizing systems in the last 2 years.

    I need help.

    I am a senior consultant who works from home. Except for the 2 years (four years ago) that I commuted weekly to Harrisburg, PA 3 weeks each month, and Sacramento on the 4th week. I’m still trying to get my house back into organized shape two years after the commuting stopped!

    To add to the fun, I adopted three kittens last September to keep my 16-year old cat company AND began a kitchen remodel last July. The big stuff in the kitchen is accomplished, but the prep and painting of cupboard doors is still on-going (in the kitchen) and my guest room is still a disaster area of kitchen stuff that has to wait for storage until the cupboard doors go back up. (The kittens find the strangest things amusing toys!) And the guest room was already my beading room, with supplies and books and magazines in chaos.

    Please help.

    I have piles and piles of paper: bills, receipts, old greeting cards, invitations to every event imaginable, ticket stubs, etc etc. My problem is I keep buying nice storage boxes/furniture to organize my crap, when I really just need to get rid of the stuff instead of spending more $$$ to organize it!

    The only thing worse than being a pack rat is being a sentimental pack rat! EEK!

    My boyfriend and I just bought a house last fall and we are slowly renovating our way through the kitchen and bathroom (after crazy wallpaper removal, crack patching and major painting throughout the whole place!) This has left our garage, basement and closet spaces in shambles, and other piles of stuff that have slowly come out of boxes are migrating to different rooms. Now, I’m a pretty virgo-y virgo, but I’m overwhelmed and don’t know where to start! I’d love to have some organizational motivation to help get my new house to the next level.

    We want to get rid of as much as we can and go on a trip around the world for a year. How to decide what’s important enough to keep? I hope we can get our stuff down to about 5 boxes so we don’t have to rent a storage space. Is that possible??

    Moved to an apartment closer to the ocean, it’s half the size of my previous apartment, with half the storage space. Totally need help!

    I would love to participate in the seminar. My husband and I just bought our first home–a small townhouse in Seattle. It’s three stories worth of clutter. Since we are now 30, it’s getting quite ridiculous to continue to move and unpack worthless boxes full of crap from college…how did this happen? Oh, right, we’re pack rats. We need help! I would be so proud of myself if our new house was actually organized!

    It seems we are constantly trying to cull from our townhome, yet between the two of us and our 2 year old we never seem to have enough storage. We’ve tried The Cure by Apartment Therapy a few times but never really succeeded. What we’d love is some way to keep organized and get the breathing room we need.

    argh, I can’t begin to start! I live in 650sq ft w/ one closet and a kitchen under construction. Just thinking about organizing makes me start sneezing!

    I was looking for a shoe that went missing a few months ago. It was an expensive shoe. I looked under the bed and pulled out an arsenal of flintlock rifles. It was like being in a spaghetti western. Let me not discuss the fish, their tanks, their accessories, the children’s toys that all seem to be made of breakable tiny plastic parts, and the cat and his hairballs. But hey, after enough excavation, I found my shoe.

    We’ve come a long way from a year ago. Downsized from twice the space to our new 1,000 sf home. I still need the motivation and skills to organize my paperwork, clothes,closets, basement and workspace. I have already found myself putting paperwork into bags then into the closet to “deal with” later. Had to go through about 40 such bags in the move last year.

    With 3 lovely children (ages 2, 4 and 6) I simply don’t have the time or organizational skills to process all of their prodigious efforts and deal with regular house de-cluttering. My kitchen counters drive me wild — if only they could be without stacks of mail, artwork, lost toys, sun lotion, and recalled Motrin. Oh, and we’re about to rip apart our basement for a remodel … and it’s not empty down there.

    We just used an organizing pro for one 3 hour session. It was enough to get our pantry fabulous, but the rest of our house is still CRAZY (never fully unpacked everything in our house before baby #2 arrived; we now have a toddler and a preschooler who work so much faster than we do at pulling out and moving things to the wrong rooms than we are at tidying up). Plus, we are both kind of packratty in nature, so it makes for hard organizing…

    There’s just not enough space! I am a single mom with a 10 year old son and we live in a one bedroom. I don’t want to give up our prime location on the park in a lovely building. I’m a minimalist but my son is a collector. Imagine. If I could just put a little order in our lives…

    I have finally realized I’m a pack rat and that my clutter is holding me back in many ways. I’ve been denying myself of my favorite creative pastimes because I have no space to do them. I need to take back the basement and home office so that I can indulge in the things that make me happy instead of watching tv.

    May 19th noon – in what time zone?! Totally not organized enough to keep track of that, too!

    I’m attempting to figure out how to do various sorts of work from home but always end up cleaning up, excavating, paying bills, untangling our two year old’s toys when I’m supposed to be working . . . . It would be great to have some new ideas!

    Thank you so much to everyone who entered; I have contacted the winners. I hope the rest of you will consider signing up for the seminar – it has been really inspiring to me and I’ve made a lot of progress since starting my workshop and it’s well worth the money. It is also really geared to those of us who have no idea where to begin!
