If you have too many pens and pencils and need to find a new home for them, call your local library (public, college, university) to see if they would be interested in them.

At my medical library, we are always on the lookout for writing utensils, especially since our institutional ban on drug rep and device rep pens. :)

The use of colors (like those great folders in the image) is not just a pick-me-up and morale booster in your office space -- it'll also help you get your hands on something much more quickly. If you put your URGENT matters in a Fire Engine Red file, you can find it at a glance.

"Messy desks, chipped furniture, over flowing letter trays, boring office supply pile-ups, and other office disasters"

yep. I pretty much have all of these.

I think my issues at work are threefold: all mail and publications go through me, so if I'm away from my desk for even 25 minutes, I come back to new mail and a pile of rubberbands and paperclips.

People leave stuff on my desk all of the time. I try to reroute it through letter trays, drop boxes away from my desk, etc, and these help a little - but much of the clutter on my desk, I didn't place there.

And finally, my job is one of many interruptions. Phone ringing all day, people at my desk - when you have to do five tasks at once, all five are spread out everywhere.

Somewhere under here I have cute office organizers....

Liza, me too! thank god for our guests as I am the most disorganized person on earth. You should have seen me trying to organize organization week - it was a disaster but it's turning out just fine thanks to the wonderful participants!
