We've had some terrific rolling carts as open storage in our kitchen (well, kitchens; we moved several times before buying out house in 1993; we still can't afford to remodel the kitchen, so the carts are still with us). It's great to be able to just reach for things.

But open storage in a kitchen with lots of cooking is problematic, and when we do remodel the kitchen, we want everything in closed storage. Airborne grease, from sauteing and from sprays like Pam or Misto, gets on surfaces throughout the kitchen. I have to scrub down those rolling carts every two or three months, and I have to scrub down everything that's on those rolling carts: food processors, our liquor cabinet in a large basket that sits on one shelf, the oversized covered Dansk casserole, the coffee grinders, the thermos and thermal cups, even the little tin with my wonderful leaf-shaped cookie cutters.

The convenience of open storage is the easy access. But the downside is having to clean everything, often.

Hi Ali,

i just stumbled upon something you had written on houzz.com and realized you are in Atlanta (coffee table bit, which i loved, ps). I am fairly new to Atlanta and am in process of buying a house which leads to furnishing and decorating (the prize after all the work ;) Anyways, wondering if you could spare a minute to give me the 411 on some of the best vintage/antique atlanta has to offer. I am not rich or interested in dropping wads of cash on "pieces" but i still want interesting finds :) i like a mix of vintage modern and traditional and am adept at reupholstering/refinishing so not so gently used is also ok with me. Sorry, very long post...any information you might have would be super hyper appreciated !

thanks,
michelle b
