I never thought I’d be so excited over a trash bin, but this isn’t just any trash bin, it’s the VIPP 15 Bin and now it’s an icon:

Founder of Vipp, Holger Nielsen, was a craftsman with a keen sense of aesthetics and quality: “Good design never goes out of fashion,” he used to say. And time would prove him right; the Vipp pedal bin has hardly changed in either design or materials since it was originally created in 1939, and on November 16, 2009 the Vipp 15 bin was accepted into The Museum of Modern Art’s (MoMA’s) Architecture and Design collection. The lid for the original bin was made of chromium-plated steel and turned by hand on a lathe, creating a wavy look. However, in the late 1940s it became possible to draw the lid in stainless steel, giving the bin the domed, smooth design we know today. Both iterations of the Vipp pedal bin are now part of MoMA’s collection.

Whoa.

Underground home in Switzerland.

In Twitter withdrawal & m havg trbl using <140 characters lately. Luckily, this house speaks for itself. Check out a full tour at Trendir. The interior shots are really striking as well.
By the way, I must warn you about Trendir. You will get sucked in for HOURS! They are great online curators. Each house made me gasp; gasps that alternated from awe gasps to envy gasps. So don’t head over there if you are trying to get work done. However, if you have time to indulge in some architectural fantasies, go for it.

This is one of the greatest pieces of fantasy real estate I’ve seen in a long time. It was once the summer hideaway of Greta Garbo, it’s 10 acres located on the rugged north shore of Massachusetts, and it can be all yours for the low low price of $4.5 million.

Straight out of a Winslow Homer painting:

Yesterday I was cruising Tumblr, and one of my favorite rolls to follow over there, my farmhouse, had posted an insanely eclectic living room that made me very curious. It turned out it was designed by Gary Spain Design and I just had to see more. While I cannot seem to find a thorough “about” column, the pictures tell a lot. Gary Spain design’s service include not only interior design, but set design and styling as well. I thoroughly enjoyed going through each slideshow on the site, and there are a wide range of styles included. Here are a few more favorites (it’s hard to choose):
He mixes in bold art and classic busts:

Arranges a perfect David Hicksian tablescape:

Creates serene and beautiful work areas that blend right into any room in the house:

And mixes color, art, and modern to perfection. Wow.
