I never thought I’d be so excited over a trash bin, but this isn’t just any trash bin, it’s the VIPP 15 Bin and now it’s an icon:

Vipp 15 MoMA Approved

Founder of Vipp, Holger Nielsen, was a craftsman with a keen sense of aesthetics and quality: “Good design never goes out of fashion,” he used to say. And time would prove him right; the Vipp pedal bin has hardly changed in either design or materials since it was originally created in 1939, and on November 16, 2009 the Vipp 15 bin was accepted into The  Museum of Modern Art’s (MoMA’s) Architecture and Design collection. The lid for the original bin was made of chromium-plated steel and turned by hand on a lathe, creating a wavy look. However, in the late 1940s it became possible to draw the lid in stainless steel, giving the bin the domed, smooth design we know today. Both iterations of the Vipp pedal bin are now part of MoMA’s collection.

If I didn’t think my husband would have a fit (but then I don’t tell him everything, do I?) I would so own this can.
Somehow $300 for a trash can just doesn’t seem right, but then I don’t have a closet full of shoes (just purses) so maybe it’s not out of the realm of possibilities.
    xo, suzy

Geogiapeachez, SO TRUE! I balk at the price of this, and yet I can’t even count the number of shoes I have that cost more than that – shoes I wear once a year, while the trash bin is used countless times a day, and looked at so much every day. Once I realized that I had been sleeping on a bedframe and mattress w/o a real bed my entire adult life, yet I had sheets on it that cost more than the bed I had been too cheap to order ;)

I just bought a wanna-be Vipp from Target for $30 and it totally sucks and rips the trashbag every time and never really opens correctly. You get what you pay for!
