By now we all know that Domino magazine and website are long gone, but by no means are they forgotten, no, no! Luckily for all of us crazed Domino fans, the folks at Simon & Schuster are helping to preserve the memory of such a great resource by providing DP with two Domino books to give away.
To enter: Comment on this posting with a EULOGY commemorating Domino mag. Eulogies will be accepted up until midnight PST on Thursday, May 14th and the two winners will be chosen at random and announced on Friday the 15th. Have fun and get creative.

R.I.P. Domino
Our beloved friend and trusted companion, Domino was lost in early 2009, despite earnest efforts to keep her alive. Domino was the light in our lives — a little spark in the mailbox that, once a month, delivered not only a smile but an escape from the world of pricey, outlandish furniture that would never make its way to our humble abodes. She showed us the best shopping spots in cities around the world, took us inside the fabulous homes of her friends and showed us all how to do it all ourselves. Her kindness, support, comfort, advice and know-how was never boastful and always welcomed — into both our homes and our hearts.
Let’s not remember the way she died, but rather the way she’d lived — with a joyful effervescence that inspired all who spoke her name.

Ode to Domino
You’ve left me so low
No more of your pillows and drapes
but this book-
Off the hook!
It will help me not miss you so.

EULOGY:
O Domino, You were always there for me with punches of color, inspiring interiors and affordable art. I miss you so.

Domino Magazine had an amazing run on this place we call earth. It filled our lives with color and inspiration. And although there will not be any new additions, we will always have the back issues to pull off out and look at from time to time. The death of Domino magazine is not so much a death as it leaves behind many wonderful issues to be looked over again and again.
R.I.P.

a heartfelt ode to domino:
oh, domino. from the very first time i saw the cover of your premiere issue, i knew you would change my life forever. before i knew you i didn’t know my danish modern from my hollywood regency. an entire room of furniture bought from the same store seemed just fine. i had no sense of how lovely and fun and eclectic good design could really be.
so thank you. though you are gone in the sense that you will no longer be physically present in my mailbox every month, you are not forgotten in the sense that your pages still fill my inspiration binders and your back issues are still honored in their space on my bookshelf. goodbye dear friend! (she sniffles)

Eulogy for Domino
Our beloved Domino,
No doubt we will miss you so.
Nods to Ikea, Target and such,
Good decorating didn’t have to cost us so much.
Every month your sweet mag would arrive in my box
And I wished I could own all the furniture
And the frocks
That your young hipsters wore on the cover, and inside,
Except for that crazy taxodermy feature (who wants something that just died). Ew.
You were among the first to do chandeliers,
And owls, and antlers, and woodland animals and deer.
We will long for you Domino; when Glamour arrives instead,
We will mourn your loss as the new teen mag gathers dust by our bed.

Oh Domino
How I harken for your siren song still
Thou has removed the fog from before mine eyes
And then bitterly allowed the fog to return
Without your sweet sweet sentiments I am ever more to suffer the delusion of my own decor.
I prevail upon Domino, the brand of sugar, to attempt in sating my search for your good.

I picked up my ex-boss’ pilot issue in and till today I was so happy that I did. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship between me and Domino. I was a newcomer to decor and design and Domino helped me greatly. I was blown away by the inspiration I was gaining. Everything from mod/contemporary to chic and cool, I was happy with every issue. Domino helped my decision to get a degree in interior architectural design.
You will be missed, Domino but we will all remember what you meant to us.
So long and farewell.
There will be no better than you.

Dear friend, Domino, you shall be terribly missed by all. You took us into the homes of celebrities and taught us how to style with color and flare. You showed us how to design beauitful rooms without breaking the bank. You had our best interest in mind and our gratitude towards you can never be measured. You are one of a kind and cannot ever be replaced.
R.I.P.

Oh Domino, I shed a tiny tear every time I glance or page through one of my cherished issues. Without sarcasm, I sincerely feel a pit in my stomach knowing that I won’t see you waiting in my mailbox anymore. There were many a cozy night that I would curl up and read you from cover to cover. You were my comfort food of magazines!

Domino, your demise did not go unnoticed. You taught us all well and you will be remembered forever.
God bless…

Domino gave us permission to indulge our own eclectic style and let our personality shine through in our decor. We’ll never decorate the same again. Inspiration, handy shopping resource, teacher, and entertainer, Domino is deeply missed.

Domino, you will never be forgotten. Always an inspiration. You can never be replaced.

Domino taught us to love color, design, and how to do great projects of our own. It was much more than a magazine. It’s unfortunate it no longer exists, but we are lucky they produced a book.

The death of Domino has left such a hole. There no design magazine out there that mixes high and low end, country and modern. In a few years when the economy is better, I’m sure there will be a replacement but it still leaves me with nothing to read now!

Oh Domino – just as I was getting to know you, you were snatched from my arms never to be seen again. I was so looking forward to knowing you better, but alas, it was not to be.

Domino – I’ve known you since the day one, the very first issue. You were always there for me when I needed help with decorating and inspiration. Glamour cannot replace you… Domino, I miss you!

Domnino – don’t leave us….. you were so different and always gave us some much more information than any of the other interior design magazines. Miss you so much.

Domino – I read every issue from the first to the last. As time went by I loved the issues a little less, but still always looked forward to them. Now I am jaded and much too cheap to buy the book so I keep entering giveaways to win it. But like you I will fail.

Oh Domino, you are gone much too soon….just as we were getting to know one another. There is no substitute.

Domino and I go way back, from its inception — I had greedily turned to the back page of InStyle all those moons, looking at the groovy design/digs featured, and my heart leapt when Domino’s birth was announced! I loved it — especially genius were features such as: mix these colors together; mix these types of chairs & desks together; here’s a cool DIY; and probably my all-time fave: an outfit inspiration for a room & translation of same. NOW you’re talkin’ to a female! Ah, Domino. We shall remember not your demise, but how you LIVED … in the perfect light.

Oh Domino,
How I miss the joy of seeing you in my mailbox all wrapped up in plastic with new great ideas on how to spruce up my abode. I would drag you along on the bus to work, devouring each page, making inspirational notes and dog earing pages. I will miss your magic of transporting me from my dreary four walled apt to swanky affordable spaces that represent not what “is” but what “could be”!
Thanks for being my friend, my decorator, and my muse!
You are gone but not forgotten, as my recently beautifully decorated apt will always be a testament to your success
