I’m always a sucker for a good map. It was posted by flickr member neryl walker to our Fresh New Spaces group. What a charming corner – all of these items work so well as a group.

Just thought I’d share these pictures I took while flying back from NYC to San Francisco last week. Below is Yosemite Valley.

Mountains are awesome.

Have a GREAT weekend!

Element Clay Studio

Through a chance meeting at a casual dinner a week or so ago, I had the privilege of meeting Heather Knight, a very talented ceramicist who just moved to Atlanta from Asheville. Heather is still getting settled in her new digs (in fact, the kiln isn’t even firing up yet), a live/work space in Decatur that serves as home for her Element Clay Studio.

Heather was nice enough to let me take a peek around and snap some shots when I came to pick up a few pieces I’d purchased from her etsy store.

It was fun to see where she created all of her intricate work, and after seeing it, I appreciated her inspiration board that much more:

This is her assistant and head of security, Henry:

I love the way Heather styles her work, especially these tiles. This is the image she uses on her logo:

By the way, my cruddy cellphone pictures are not doing the work justice. I highly recommend looking at it more closely on Heather’s site or on etsy.

Pardon my exterior afterthought shot with the open car door. I was in a hurry to get to Chik-Fil-A. It’s impossible to go to Decatur without a stop there, well, except when you go on a Sunday, since they are closed, which is always horrendously disappointing when you make a Chikkie run and forget.

I’m trying out the insert gallery button here just to sneak in the extra shots. Yes, I am about three years behind the curve with this. Or is it more like ten? Anyway, yea or nay to the “Insert Gallery” doohickey? Let me know in the comments.

Some Favorite Design Moves Seen at the Modern Atlanta Tour

A lot of times on a modern house tour, you tend to see the same stark spaces, blank white walls, and Saarinen Tulip Tables at every house. Not true at on the Modern Atlanta House tour: each one showed the owners’ personalities through a variety of means. Here are a few of the fun design moves I spied last weekend.

A peek-a-boo guestroom, as seen from the stairs on the way to the kitchen. Curtains are pulled aside to expose this room to visitors in other areas of the house. I love that the lucite nightstand and clear glass lamp play off the glass wall.

In the same house, I love this green dresser and great peacock print look together. The frame works really well with the curtain color.

I wish I had a dollar for every cowhide rug I saw. This area around one was really well laid-out:

I totally dug this arrangement of FLOR carpet tiles:

I love this low cabinet full of plants. It keeps everything from being too stark:

This photograph is so perfect over the sink. Now I want some Honey Nut Cheerios:

This gives new meaning to “piano bar”:

I also like to decorate my closet with fun artwork. The silver and red heels are really eye-catching:

Oh good, thanks so much to those who weighed in at the one-at-a-time vs. all-in-one flickr favorites posting. I’m glad you are liking them one at a time, because I love doing them this way. Well, I fell into flickr member soulellis’s sets today and I’m still stuck in there, I can’t get out. It’s funny to track how you get to a place. Today  went something like this – I decided I wanted to do an ideabook on Houzz about big slabs of trees in furnishings, as I noticed a few choice pieces on the Modern Atlanta Tour last weekend. I could not think of George Nakashima’s name (I kept googling “George Nagasaki” and getting a lot of WWII search results) to save my life, so I twittered SallyTV and of course she set me straight from these clues I gave her:

*

Thank you Sally! Then I started futzing around and searching for George Nakashima on flickr, and I found souldellis’s George Nakashima Studio set. WOW! I’m only half way through checking out that set, but thought I’d share with you. There are many more pictures here.

*By the way, I had to cut and paste this twitter exchange together – I wish twitter would put things in order. Sometimes people respond to me and I’ve already forgotten what the heck I was talking about in the first place. Am I missing some better way to keep it all straight or figure out which tweet people are replying to? I’m still a twitter nitwit!
