I’m not a fan of people who deface statues or churches or beautiful buildings with grafitti, but sometimes grafitti can really improve aesthetics.  I have no idea what this says, but I felt compelled to take a few snapshots when I spied this grafitti in Monmarte. Does anyone know what the hell it says? I have no knowledge of French whatsoever. I hope it’s not obscene!

The banister next to the steps had some interesting rail cozies knitted around it as well. I was about to get run over by the people descending behind me, so this is the best shot I was able to take:

I’ll take a run at translating the French… The first one is a bit fragmented — seems there is text cut off to the right of the frame.

It reads, “All together, much more important is the ____ of friendship.” (We’re missing a word I think.)

The second one reads, “The cave of Tartar(e), whatever one has that is precious, one loses.”
