Hi Staci!

No, we did not have time for Birmingham proper, but I have seen so many great designers and shops represented in glossies like House Beautiful, Domino, and Cottage Living that I never doubted there would be fun shopping there.

My intent was not to give an overall bad experience; we had a ball and the only negative was some bad mystery meet calling itself chicken fingers. The rest of the food was deliciously home-cooked (including corn on the cob on the grill - YUM!) by Mr. and Mrs. Murray on our weekend so we had no desire to venture out too far beyond their grill.

Thanks for the Helene/Helena tip. I will correct that ASAP!

I was really glad to see that you had visited our lovely state, but I hate you had such a bad experience. Just to correct it is Helena not Helene and your guests should have taken you to one of the great resturants very near the bad bar food. I'm glad you visited At Home, one of my favorites. If you ever get near again ask for someone to show you aournd the incredible loft district dowtown and all of the quirky shops in the area. Birmingham is really a great place if you go to the right places!
