This past week I visited Branford Connecticut (on the coast right outside of New Haven), Stockbridge Massachusetts and Mid-Coast Maine. My cousin‘s next door neighbor is an artist, and she puts out different paintings she’s done on the front of her house. I just love this one. It reminds me of an all-girls Devo for some reason.
By the way, this same neighbor is not shy about letting everyone that drives by know her views. She has a stack of signs she switches out on a regular basis. This is the one for this week:
You have to love a town where purple trim doesn’t look out of place. The window boxes and gardens in the neighborhood are so charming. You can tell the Hollyhocks really dig living in Branford:
I love that they have gourds wrapping around their feet. This garden is phenomenal.
I thought the south had the front porch thing down, but there are some northerners who definitely give us a run for our money.
It’s amazing the difference window boxes make! Shutters with little cut-outs are so charming too. Are these trees, magic mushrooms, or broccoli?
P.S. Some of these I took this week, some I took last fall and forgot to share with you. Or maybe I already did and forgot. Anyway, that’s why there are Hollyhocks in some photos and Chrysanthemums in others. And don’t tell anyone, but this spot is about an hour and a half from NYC, is about 15 minutes from Yale, and is a whole lot less expensive than the Hamptons.
