The Sex and the Dorothy Draper

I was so obsessed with Candace Bergen’s office at Vogue in The Sex and the City movie that I almost took a picture of it in the theater. Turns out I’m a big chicken and I was afraid I’d be arrested for bootlegging or something. Thanks to Traditional Home Magazine, I now have the image to share with you:

Check out those AMAZING Dorothy Draper chests! I count three of them. I was focusing so much on them, I didn’t even notice those fabulous chairs, the elegant desk, the seemingly out of place modern chair, and that weird gold deerhead thing in the top left corner. I don’t know what ages more gracefully – Draper’s chests or Candace Bergen.

Hah! I know what you mean about movie sets. Sometimes I get so caught up in the sets that I lose track of the plot. Thanks heavens for DVDs!

There is a site for set decorators, but they rarely have good photos. Grrrr….

One of my current set design favorites were those done for The Holiday – a good chick flick. Both the little cottage and the Hollywood mansion were built just for the film. It’s fun to see two completely different styles done so well.

I found some knock off Dorothy Draper chests like these at http://www.glamfurniture.com. Only $788.00. They would look great in my office.

Oh. My. God. I can’t believe someone else was in a theatre somewhere else, gasping the same gasp I was, at the same gaspworthy Draper chests … I was trying to be civilized and squeal under my breath. I was definitely squealing on the inside.

    Uh, Linda, ONLY $788 each?

    Love your blog.
