Coastal Style / Waterfront Inspiration

I am SUCH a sucker for books about dream homes - my dream home can be a rustic shack, but it needs to have a view of water. Preferably not the muddy snaky polluted Chattahoochee River here in Georgia, but rather a nice lake or the ocean. Since that’s never going to happen, in summer I try to beach-i-fy my home a little bit, whether it means pulling out Gram’s wicker chairs or painting my bathroom blue. Here’s a list of some great books to inspire you:

1. Island Life (the one by India Hicks, not Grace Jones)

2. Coastal Style

doesn’t this one look like sfgirlbybay styled a beach house?

3. Studios by the Sea

4. Seaside Style

5. Art Forms from the Ocean

6. Alex Katz in Maine

7. Finnish Summer Houses

8. A subscription to Coastal Living. You can find amazing places to rent in here, so that you can live the dream house life for at least a week.

9. One Morning in Maine

10. The Houses of Martha’s Vineyard

Obviously, I have Maine on the brain, as in Atlanta today it’s 90 degrees and humid with the drought in full swing and the smog alert on red.

photos from the books listed, most via Amazon.com, a few have been scanned.

I have the Island Life book! It’s so pretty! :) I am going to have to take a look at the other books you listed.

Thanks Becky for the plug. As much as we would like to sell more print subs, in the interest of full disclosure, I have to tell you that you can find our Guestbook (rentals) columns online. Sure there are fewer pictures than in print, but the info is still there.

And, if you are so inspired after cruising the web site, there are plenty of subscription offers there that make it easy to follow your 8th suggestion.

    Glad you enjoy Coastal Living!
