Mason Jars
A couple of years ago, a friend told me about a Shabby Chic show where Rachel put tealights in mason jars and hung them from trees. She wanted to do this at her party, and I said no problem, I knew where to find a bunch of them for a buck each, so I brought them up to the party. It worked out pretty well, but then I had about 30 mason jars left and didn’t know what to do with them. Now they are all full of all kinds of things, from wine corks and matchbooks to fancy soaps, from q-tips to tulips. I even keep one full of shells in my medicine cabinet just so that when I open it I see something pretty. My dad loves to freeze them and then drink Coronas out of them. Do you use mason jars for anything? Please share with us!

I inherited a whole bunch of mason jars when I bought my house. So for my birthday party, I put small white doilies on the front with spray adhesive and used them as luminaries. Unfortunately, the day of my party we had a huge snow storm, so I lined my luminaries on the fireplace mantle and got loads of compliments.

Love the doily idea. What’s the best place to buy old mason jars in bulk? I’d like to use a bunch at my wedding this August…thanks!

Hi Ladies! I’m not sure where to find them in bulk, I am certain they must sell new ones for jams and such. I’d probably start with eBay. I’ll poke around online and check in back here if I find anything. I find mine at some really junky flea market type stores. They are usually about $1-3.
OK, poked around. try the canning pantry. http://www.canningpantry.com/canning-jars.html

I have about 20 mason jars that I have saved through the years. At parties, i line them up along the centre of my dining room table put some water in them and then one tulip in each. It doesn’t cost a lot to buy 20 tulips but each in its own jar makes a very pretty display.

Hey S. That’s a great idea. I am a tulip freak; I LOVE having fresh tulips around my house at all times, as you can tell from my bedroom mason jar! Thanks for stopping by and for the idea!
