Sometimes inspiration is right outside your own door, other times you have to travel far and wide to find it.  I am a cruddy photographer and was waiting to snag my travelmate Christina’s pictures from Prague to share with you, but we just can’t seem to get it together, so you’re stuck with mine for awhile.

I get inspired by little things, like the color of this wall and the shape of these windows:

As a landscape architect, I am obsessed with paving and patterns in the stones…

…and interesting memorials:

I get excited about signage:

I also like to see statues that look like they are at the club saying “HAY-AYE!”:

I even get obsessed with hotel details, like this kelly green tile and cabinet in our bathroom.  I come home thinking about tiny tiles and kelly green in a whole new way:

It’s funny, after being away you come home with fresh eyes, noticing and appreciating small details you never thought about before.

My one big question about Prague is, why is there a DIXIELAND BAND on every corner?  I mean, did I really leave GEORGIA to sit on a plane for 11 hours to go to an exotic place and hear someone imitating Satchmo everywhere I went?  I get the worldwide obsession with jazz and Kanye West, but the Dixieland thing was totally bizarre!

I took some of the same exact pictures! :-) Isn’t it an absolutely stunning city? As a Brit I’m no stranger to masses of historical architecture, but Prague was simply drenched in it!! I was practically glued to my camera the whole trip. I visited last November, and it was amazing - but very, very cold ;-)

We stayed in the gorgeous new Eurostars Thalia hotel with a breathtaking bathroom that I wish I’d taken photos of!

I was also curious about the dixieland band…they seemed to be playing every day! Any Czech people around that can tell us what the fascination is??

Thanks minxlj - can’t wait to check out your photos!

There were actually several dixieland bands! We thought it was all the same one at first, but they way we walked and the number we passed, they had to be different unless they could beam up like Scotty!

Czina, you live in such a beautiful place! It was funny, when I got home, I checked out one of my glossies and a castle someone had just finished decorating was featured. They had taken a Muchas design and had it etched on the glass in their doors - very cool!
