Design Star Results are Coming!
Did any of you vote for the winner of Design Star? It was kind of tough. Both contestants would probably make good hosts, though I find Kim a little more natural, and I like that she does not use all that cowabunga dude surfer speak that Todd uses.
As for the designs, while Todd has fared better cumulatively, Kim absolutely blew him out of the water in this island challenge. If I were a hotel guest, I would much prefer staying in Kim’s suite over Todd’s. It seemed like when Todd was completing an entire design without being able to make one big, bold, attention-grabbing move, he could not quite pull off an attractive, put-together room.
As for Kim, she improved an immeasurable amount since the “Deserving Design” episode. She pulled the room together with great color, smart space planning, and creative space separators like the wood and chain divider she used in front of the kitchen area.
What did you all (i.e. the four of this who are still hooked on this show) think? Do you think total performance throughout the competition should count? How important are the contestants’ hosting abilities in the equation? Whose final room did you like better? And most importantly, who do you think will win? Based on this challenge alone, I would totally give it to Kim. (Truth be told, I thought Todd’s hotel room looked like ass.)
Based on all challenges so far, I think Kim still has a slight edge.
Based on hosting abilities: Kim, hands down.

At HGTV.com, we’re psyched about the finale. I personally don’t know who won, and the rest of my coworkers are sworn to secrecy, but I’m pulling for Kim!

Kim is going to be around for a long time. She has “IT.” What she lacks in experience will come soon enough. Todd wasn’t as polished in hosting, nor as capable in downright basic design. I liked him from the first because of his “extreme edge,” but by the final show I was all for Kim. And, I agree, Todd’s room was horrible. Gag. He should be working with Kim–what a combination! His pizzaz and her sensibilities and savoir-faire.

Todd should have won this - no contest.
Kim is a decorator - and frankly I was not thrilled with anything that she did.
Todd is a designer. Sometimes he was a little out there but isn’t that what design is all about?
Even as a HGTV addict, I cannot imagine watching Kim for an entire show- but Todd would have been entertaining.

Interesting! I agree that Todd is a designer, but I feel like Kim beat him fair and square on this challenge - she really stepped up her game. Prior to this episode, I was convinced that she was a good host but had no game. I was out of town and forgot to TiVo the finale. I can’t imagine drawing that out for an hour - how annoying is that?
Heidi, I can imagine in the beginning of the episode where Kim has her color swatches out. I feel like it was called “Cayenne” or something like that. That would be a great feature on the HGTV website - providing resources for the viewers like a magazine would. Perhaps you should email and suggest it to them? I’ve found they are very open to suggestions from viewers!

I’ve just watched the finale, and you didn’t miss much. Kim won fair and square, but I wish they’d give a program to Will and Sparkle Josh, both of whom stole the finale. STILL don’t understand why Will didn’t make it to the final. Grrrrrr…..

I like Tod much better and found Kim boring, although I watch HGTV alot, I won’t be watching her show….watching it wouldn’t be much different than just looking thru a magazine….
