New Drinking Game – Design TV Shows

10m.jpgOK, so in college, many of took swigs whenever Brenda was a beeyatch or Dylan brooded on 90210. I’ve become completely addicted to design TV lately, in spite of the things I hate about it, like when they say “hardscape,” or all the other generic horrendous things they do to peoples’ yards. Those hideous gold and red fabrics, the overdone window treatments, the homemade art, ugh. Either way, the good, the bad, and the ugly are all totally entertaining. The real estate shows are pretty fun – I love the fantasy of staging and flipping a house, which is truly so much harder than they make it look, especially in this market, especially when you are watching contractors nail the much coveted crown moulding* up crooked, especially when their chances of passing a true inspection would be nil. But that’s what fantasy is for, eh?

So onto the game. In order to get ready for Design Star‘s premiere tonight, take just a tiny swig of Cabernet everytime you hear the following things:

“We’re going to create a focal point

“Make it pop!”

“We’re going for a zen feel” (should we make everyone on the show read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance to make it stop???)

Any mention of Feng Shui that involves some lucky bamboo

Wow Factor!

Anytime something awful is created and called an “art project” or an “art piece.”

There. You will be wasted within a half hour.

Here’s a Mexican Cantina Garage. Methinks I spy an art piece/focal point on the back wall. A bold endeavor, but really, who wants to eat a meal in the garage?
*Isn’t it funny that everyone’s biggest desire is to live underneath crown moulding (perhaps it’s in a tie with granite counters?) It’s not like it’s extremely difficult to put up or made of solid gold. Crown Moulding. Granite Counters. Stainless Appliances. Big Whoop. I don’t get it.

Great post! My boyfriend and I have a pretend drinking game (we’d be seriously wasted nightly if we actually partook) when we watch Discovery Home’s “Holmes on Homes”! Our drinking cues are Mike Holmes saying “unbelievable”, “I’m gonna gut this place” and “take it all down!”.

Also, living in Chicago, I’m so sick of seeing signs announcing another luxury condo building with Bosch/Viking/Sub-zero appliances and granite and marble everywhere! I have to admit though, we’re selling our stainless steel applianced, granite countered, marble bathroomed modern condo and of course we have those as selling points. The masses demand it! We do have a cool stained concrete wall in the living room though – and not a bit of crown moulding in sight. Woohoo!

hehe! At least Lisa got canned last night for her ‘art piece’ made from ripping up old telephone books. Puh-lease! Since we don’t appear to have anywhere to dish on Design * may I also say how horrified I was by the general appallingly bad standard. Was it this dreadful last season? It made me cry to see what they did to such a gorgeous space…

[…] Holly has promised Becky that she will be hosting chats on Decor8.  Or else get a bottle of Bailey’s and try Becky’s drinking game. […]
