Sundance Catalog is Trailertastic!
Yesterday’s mail was so good - a great coupon to Saks Off Fifth, a scrumptious Elle Decor (I’ll tell you more about that when I have more time), the yellow and black old Playboy club ashtray I won on eBay, and a Sundance Catalog (it’s too much to ask to get a personal letter these days, so something impersonal from Robert Redford is as good as it gets). Check out the trailer they have on the cover - I thought it was just for styling, but it’s available for $24K. Here’s the product story:
This trailer was designed from plans dating back to the 1940’s and has been enhanced with modern-day functionality improvements. During the era of post depression, highway construction, and Roosevelt’s push for developing the National Parks, more people started traveling across the country. Teardrop trailers — or a “tent on wheels” — appealed to these travellers for many reasons: they were an upgrade to tents and they were lightweight enough to carry behind the “cars of the day”.
Constructed of top quality grade maple hardwood and clear maple plywood, the interior promises to really glow. The exterior will be wrapped with high polished anodized aluminum, making upkeep a breeze. No repolishing to worry about!

I did a report a couple of years ago on the 1939 world’s fair and thats when this camper camoe out. Im trying to figure it out who designed it, but Im coming up with nothing. I have a movie from it that I’ll have to watch. The theme of the fair was the world of tomorrow and is the same fair where the concept of mass transportation roads, highways, came from. I’ll get back to you when I find it. Im pretty sure it was based after the motorcycle camper called the vegabond.

Hi Natasha! I have some old pamphlets from that world’s fair - it’s crazy to drive by the remnants of it and try to envision what it was like back then!
Which World’s Fair do you think had more influence, 1939 NYC or 1893 Columbian Exposition (Chicago)? Any American Architectural History survey course gives a lot of attention to both of them.
