Lighting took all kinds of new forms at this year’s ICFF. I named the one above Mary Poppins. Fitting that it was in the Brit section.

This Austrian chandelier might just be the best thing I saw in the entire show:

The shades below are made of CDs:

I’m not really sure what this sci-fi lamp is about, but the booth was cool:

Some light fixtures multitasked, like this winerack/planter/floor lamp:

These glowing buttons turn unsightly wires into fun threads of power:

Then there was the fabulous silverwear light:

hansandfranz’s brightly colored tripod lamps play with proportion and are taller than standard floor lamps. Check out thier perfectly-cast shadows:

THOUT Design had some creative fabric shades:

Finally, if you really crave a unique lighting scheme, you can always dine by Lenin candleholders:

I’ll be sharing a few other favorite light fixtures over the next week or two.

I will never forget the art prof who (in the early 80s) told me silhouettes were easy and “marginal” and basically embarrasing. I ignored everything ELSE he ever told me but that. The big bedspread is not “Yum” to me, it is “damn I will redecorate my bedroom around that” . I’m a printmaker, my soon-to-be-remodeled house will have a brown walled -white built-ins-and-trim master bedroom full of black and white prints I’ve collected over the years. That bedspread is the ONLY ONE I have seen that would work. Awesome. I LOVE this blog, thanks.

Those Lenin candle holders are a hoot! I want a place just filled with sureal items. One day, one day.

I love the spoon/fork/knife lamp – yo uca nmake a custom-made one that might look much better than this. Many years ago there was a bar in Athens that had a custom made chandelier of spoons, forks and knives, amazing! Wish I had that one!

I wish I had the skills to make one – I think it’s so clever!

I saw the CD shades during London design week 2006, they are awsome, i featured them in an article that i put together for a design mag that i work for and they got an awsome response. Ali Siahvoshi’s stuff is well liked here in London, he has some other great stuff like the side table lamp. Its nice to see that the Brits are making an impression over the pond! If you fancy checking out another great guy look at ryanfrank.net. He is South African but works in Hackney in London, i love his design ethics and i am sure that he would be well liked over in LA too!
