On Tackiness and Anti-Depressive Living

Have you picked up any objects for anti-depressive living lately? If so, please share them with our flickr group! Recently I could not resist this ram who is packing much back. While he’s too tall for most of my shelves, he solved the problem of the floppy Ian McHarg book falling over all the time, and I like that his big head doesn’t fit.

The Ram backs that thang up:
Problem solved, crazy ram loud and proud, sitting in the perfect spot:

You know, when you see an object you just love, get it. Don’t worry that other people will think it’s stupid or tacky. I’m sure everyone that has seen this guy on my shelf thinks I’m a total nut job, and I don’t care. If your gut wants it, that means there is a perfect spot in your home where it needs to go. Mr. Ram makes me smile every day. Perhaps it’s because I am an Aries. While I respect and admire minimalism, it does not make me smile. You can incorporate objects in modern decorating without amassing too much clutter. Just be sure you dust regularly.

i love your ram!!!! i tried the minimalist thing for a couple of years and was so bored and uninspired with myself that bit by bit my treasures are findng their way back into my space. i totally agree with your philosophy about buying things that are ‘calling your name’, as i like to refer to it. keep up the inspiring job.

Thanks Rosanne! Are you an Aries as well? You know, I forgot to mention that a lot of those beloved treasures can be something like a figurine you always loved to gaze at in a grandparent’s home, or anything else associated with happy memories.

I just came across your website via Shak in Style via Apartment Therapy and I’m hooked.
I had to comment on this post in particular because months ago I spotted an item that I loved and I wanted and I left behind because I worried others might perceive is as tacky. I went back hours later and it was gone and I still regret not taking it. But since then the only things that enter my home are things that I truly love and make ME happy.
I can’t wait to go through the archives and see what I missed. I’ll be moving to a new apartment in a couple of months and I can’t wait to put my stamp on it. It looks like your site will serve as a lot of inspiration…thanks!

Hi Michele! Welcome and thanks so much!
I guess you learned your lesson on leaving that item behind, but sometimes when you go back and it’s gone, that’s fate telling you that you were better off without it, maybe???
I am supposed to be guest blogging over at Shak in Style this week but I am having some technical difficulties getting the posts to publish, and I feel like such a dope. Hopefully I’ll figure it out tomorrow.
