Have you checked out the newly revamped website from Dwell magazine? The Dwell Daily Blog and galleries really stand out. Some of my favorite entries include the suburban teepee, designed by a student named John Paananen, who lives in it! I can’t think of a more perfect campus than Eliel Saarinen’s designed Cranbrook Academy for this project. Isn’t it great to see the spirit of creative architecture still lives on there? I love this shot of it in context – the shape and starkness of the cone contrasted with the brick and chimneys. The final detail of snow around it makes it look like it popped up from underground like those weird earthling killing machines in that really bad Tom Cruise Speilberg movie. Another favorite entry that has been making the rounds in the blog circuit lately is about Cow Power. In a nutshell, cow manure is transformed into kilowatts.
The Homes Section is full of the buildings the magazine has featured in the past. You can browse by location, style, and philosophy. Be warned, this can be an even larger time-sucker than browsing Living Etc. Best of all, there is a Show Your Space section where Dwell readers share their designs.
