http://www.bravotv.com/Project_Runway/tims_takeDISCLAIMER: It’s Sunday. On Sunday I rest. If I ever post anything on a Sunday, you can bet it’s going to be sloppier than usual, and it’s going to be about whatever I want. Oh, and it might not even make any sense, and you can bet there is not much fact-checking involved. I don’t like to Google on Sundays.

OK, I think I started a rumor awhile back that Tim Gunn might not be on Project Runway anymore due to his day job at Parsons being more important to him than television. I don’t know where I heard that, or where I even said it for that matter, but I was WRONG! Last night I read in my favorite magazine, Entertainment Weekly*, that he has left Parsons for some big job at Liz Claiborne. I didn’t know there still was a Liz Claiborne**, except I guess I see the occasional outlet whenever I am on the interstate in the middle of nowhere. The article said that Tim was still not locked down under contract at P.R., but that it was very likely that he will still be able to serve as the best studio critic television has ever seen. I’ve always adored him, but I appreciate him even more after watching that boring Top Design show, where some of my favorite designers are flat and totally dullsville. I wish Top Design would figure out how to Make It Work before they Carry On!

NOTES:

photo from bravotv.com. That’s the controversial Miss USA Tara Connor with Tim; apparently bravotv.com is cashing in on her recent troubles by showing footage of her appearance on P.R..

*Entertainment Weekly has not been the same ever since Dalton Ross stopped doing the TV schedule. I used to laugh out loud over it every week. Now all I laugh over is the occasional article by Dan Snierson. You can tell that Stephen King writes phones in his column from the can or something, but who cares, it’s Stephen King, and a magazine has roped him into doing a column.

**OK, recently I did hear that there was still a Liz Claiborne, and that they had bought up a large portion of kate spade, which seems like a total disconnect. I have no idea of whether or not this is true, and I don’t feel like googling it, but it could be, you never know. Let me know what you find out.

Yep — Liz Claiborne is a group that owns a bunch of brands — just bought Kate Spade. They also own Juicy Couture, Dana Buchman, Laundry, Lucky Brand, and Mexx, to name a few. People have no idea — and they really don’t want them to because they don’t want the “cool” brands they own to be connected with the “old” Liz Claiborne name.

Liz Claiborne the person has not been involved with the company for years — but she is still alive.

    There you have it –

Leesa, thanks for the info – I had NO idea! I was a big Liz fan in the ’80′s – I didn’t have a clue they owned Juicy and Lucky. Did they buy Neiman’s share of kate spade? I assume kate still has her creative control?

Yep — she still has creative control and this will allow her to do some of the brand extension (home furnishings, etc) she has been wanting to do.

Liz did buy out Neiman’s share, I believe.

Who are the main or rather who are the total sum of principles owning the Liz Claiborne company? She sold out some time, perhaps recently, before her passing into the great green fields of heaven…. Does any-one have that info?
