For those of you in NYC for the next month, check out this bulletin from Flavorpill:

Jonathan LeVine, with the help of the Choque Cultural Gallery in São Paulo, brings eight Brazilian street artists into his gallery for diversion from the usual Chelsea fare (and the New York winter). Fefe, the lone female artist, creates playful, geometric monsters from a jumble of block letters; like Onesto’s round, cutely deformed characters, they recall children’s-book illustrations. Speto’s graphic vernacular, meanwhile, comes from the naïf wood-engraving style used on the cover of Brazilian chapbooks, known as cordel literature. And, in the spirit of a Brazilian summer, Highraff presents his swirling, psychedelic landscapes as murals, canvases, and sculptures.

The Event: February 17 from 6p.m. to 9 p.m.; Exibition continues through March 17 2007 (Tue-Sat: 11am-6pm).

Location: Jonathan LeVine Gallery (529 W 20th St, 9E, 212.243.3822)

The work looks fresh and amazing – to see more, check out Choque Cultural on flickr, on their website, and on their blog.
