me and my adler bookThis book has been out for awhile, but I had to wait for Christmas.  Once I opened it, no one saw me look up from it until the turkey came out at dinner.  My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living is a total crack-me-upper.  I’m glad someone finally named a chapter "Minimalism is a Bummer," meaning that there is an "utter pointlessness of good taste without fun."  I love that one section is called "What Would Mrs. Goldstein Do?"  I love the idea of naming my little house something fancy and having towels embroidered and matchbooks made up with some name like "Chez B" or "The Harrington."  I love that Simon Doonan, Adler’s partner, loves to come home and toss his hat onto a Michael Jackson bust on the table.  I love that he includes hilarious details, like after describing the fashions at Maury Stein’s Bar Mitzvah, he adds as a side note "by the way, Maury’s father was a podiatrist, and they had a pool shaped like a foot."

362085663_22c3077237.jpg Well, I won’t ruin all the jokes for you, but after you give the book a peruse, think about what makes you happy.  Then photograph it.  Then share it with us in the Anti Depressive Living flickr photo group .  I started it with a few oddball pieces that probably only I love.  That’s OK – they make me happy! To the left is Missionary Mary Procter’s "Bounce Girl," which is hanging in my laundry room.

Kristen, you just reminded me that I need to order my matchbooks! OK, matchbooks, towels, what else can I put my stamp on?

    Thanks for writing!
    Becky

I checked out this book as well, some really good work, and some really good but ugly combinations as well… The hefty price tag means it won’t be a part of my collection anytime soon, but overall the layout and vivid colors means it is a must-have, especially if you are a fan of his work…

Eli, I saw it at amazon recently for about $11 new (you know when you click on “used or new” starting at… – I always do that.
