Mayan Temple from amazon.com So it’s about that time of year when the stores open at 5 a.m. and you can’t park within two miles of the mall until after the holidays.  I’m all about shopping from this very laptop and coming up with something more original than Isotoners, and I’ll be sharing some of my interesting finds with you all month.  I hope you’ll do the same and share some of your favorites with me.

Did you like model building as a kid?  Do you have a young, budding architect who is already a master with blocks?  If so, think about architectural models as gifts.  For that person who wants to enjoy the experience of putting it together, try the  Mayan Temple Block Set or the  Roman Coliseum Block Set by HABA.  If puzzles and Paris are more his or her thing, try out the 3D Wooden Eiffel Tower Small Puzzle by B.C. Bones.

zippergifts.com Personally, I made so many models and suffered many late-night exacto knife injuries that I never want to look at another piece of corrugated cardboard again.  For those who simply appreciate the beauty of a balsa model someone else has already completed, let me introduce you to a company called Roost.   Roost currently has two gorgeous models that have already made it to a spread in Elle (Balsa models, in Elle Decor, that is).  Check out the Guiette House Model.  It’s for sophisticated adults, who secretly appreciate it because it reminds them of the Barbie townhouse they had in the ’70’s.
