The Tour of Homes will take place on October 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tour "showcases the range of Modern domestic structures throughout the city of Atlanta spanning the years from 1947 through the mid 1970’s. DOCOMOMO Georgia seeks to educate the public about the Modern Movement in Georgia, demonstrating the continued viability of these historic homes." For more information, click here. Thanks to Lee Cuthbert over at Victory Vintage Home for passing along this information. By the way, you may purchase tickets at Victory Vintage.
*For those of you interested in the photo above, I swiped it from DOCOMODO’s flickr account. it used to be a bank on Monroe Drive. I noticed it for sale for years and was just waiting (hoping, more like it, the building was on the most endangered list from 2003 until the restuarant transformation) for someone to do something cool with it. Then I saw it in a Chingy rap video on MTV. There were sexy video ladies (OK, I’m trying not to say "video hos," sue me) in all of the drive through booths. Soon after, it became Piebar, a hip restuarant. Score one for modern preservation in a tear-down town!
**I forgot to add earlier, the DOCOMODO site has a great modern timeline on it. Check it out when you have time!
