Look to Old Sources for Modern Design

A few months back I was at Victory Vintage and I scooped up a few vintage home magazines. I could not believe how much the October 1964 House and Garden resembled today’s magazine. The month I picked it up, the resemblance to the current Metropolitan Home was uncanny (pictured right).
While flipping through, I could not get over how ubiquitous the classic Saarinen table has been since the time it was designed. In a Life magazine from 1962* the table appears in a Tupperware advertisement. I scooped up two current magazines from my coffee table, I believe Dwell and Metropolitan Home, and there it was again (and again, and again…).
You can usually find these magazines at all kinds of junk stores and on sites like eBay. They are totally worth picking up for fun and inspiration.
*I’ll have to share the cover of the Life magazine with you on another day – it was frightening how relevant it is to today’s world!
