My Favorite Garden of Late…

sweet venice beach garden.jpg Hi All!  Well, here in Atlanta the pollen count is high and the Dogwood Festival is in full swing.  It’s time to start thinking about the yard.  Or the balcony.  Or your little plot in the community garden.  Or those herbs you always meant to plant on the shelf over your kitchen sink.  Whatever.

I find a lot of people are completely intimidated by the thought of decorating outdoors.  Perfectly capable interior designers freeze up and don’t realize that the same principles apply outdoors.  People moan about their black thumbs, or their houseplant that died. It’s not rocket science.  Just get some gloves and get dirty. If you are lucky enough to have a large outdoor space, think about it as a room, or a series of rooms.

When I was studying Landscape Architecture, I studied and visited many beautiful gardens.  From Villa D’Este to Richard Haag’s Gas Works Park, I appreciate a wide range of Landscape Designs.  I have to say this little gem (pictured above)in California is one of my all time favorites.  It’s right around the corner from Frank Gehry’s Chiat/Day Building, and it’s a perfect part of the funky flavor of Venice Beach.

P.S.  I am not much a photographer, but if anyone is interested I shot a few fun buildings that caught my eye around Venice Beach and added them to flickr

Becky—You sure “captured” the feel of Venice Beach! Having just been there myself, I loved seeing again the fun buildings you photographed. Love the “little gem” of a garden too. mom
