BUILD – Excel. Lead. Succeed.

Posted on April 1st, 2006 by Matt // 3 Comments »

Design Public and Build.org kids Last Tuesday Drew and I darted from Design Public HQ early and headed to the East Bay to meet up with a handful of talented freshmen from Oakland Tech. Schuyler, Alex, Robin and Kenny are all taking part in the BUILD program – here’s a little background:

"BUILD empowers youth from low-income communities to excel in the classroom, on the job, and beyond by giving them an education in entrepreneurship. By encouraging students to develop their own small businesses, BUILD extends traditional entrepreneurial education far beyond the classroom and provides students with real-world business experiences."

I was tasked with discussing the design process, creativity, and inspiration while Drew spearheaded a conversation on entrepreneurship. Overall, things went GREAT. We brainstormed creative ideas for their business venture (a new tee-shirt company) and wolfed down some delicious pizza. If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about BUILD, definitely check out their website.
