Well, I’ve been having so much fun with all the magazines that landed on my doorstep last week that I don’t know if I’ll get to much else. Elle Decor, Metropolis, Dwell, H & G, Domino and Met Home are stacked up next to me. I love to see our vendors getting some attention – I know I spotted Erich Ginder’s Ghost Antlers , and Amenity Throw Pillows (which we happen to have ON SALE NOW), featured in some of them, to name a few.

pocket decorator2.jpgThe other book I wanted to let you know about is The Pocket Decorator by Pamel and Leslie Banker. I picked one up at G.F. MacGregor’s, the shop I am always raving about in Rockland Maine. This is a great book to have on hand before you meet with an architect, contractor, interior designer, or even before you walk into any store looking for any possible object for your home. It’s even small enough to fit into a medium purse, so take it with you when you are on your treasure hunts.

The book is basically a design glossary. Finally, you’ll be able to tell the difference between toile and taffeta fabrics, fauteuil and bergere chairs, fretwork and caning, butthinges and double action hinges, the tree of life motif and a lotus motif, bay and bow windows, and soffits and reveals! Believe it or not, there are many more.

    Hi Becky!

I always love when I do web searches for products and my favorite design blog comes up!

A friend bought me a small fun book from G.F MacGregor and gave it to me for a Thanksgiving Day present. Was a great gift! And I can’t wait to find out more about the store. Thanks for the mention, but they’re site is under construction.

Oh my gosh, you must make the trip to Rockland and see the shop for yourself. But just don’t tell too many people; ever since Martha bought a place in Maine, the place that has been my family’s secret for years has become WAY too popular.

Their website has never been much to write home about, but the store totally rocks and keeps up with the times – on my first visit years ago it was all shabby chic, and now it has modernized itself. At the time, BTW, I was WAY into Shabby Chic, as they are the softest, most awesome products, but the aesthetic has left my repatoire (sp?)

    Hi Becky,

I’m just seeing this post a couple of years after the fact–I’m happy to see you liked The Pocket Decorator.

We have a new book out The Pocket Renovator–I’d be happy to send you a copy if you want to see it.

    Best,
    Leslie
