Another online first: Eleventwentyfive’s new line of pillows designed by Portland artist Amy Ruppel. Eleventwentyfive has a mission near and dear to our heart here at Design Public: they commission independent artists to transform their art into home products. Here Jennifer Katell from Eleventwentyfive discusses how art becomes a pillow.

We here at Eleventwentyfive are excited to introduce the Owl Flower pillows, part of the Plume series by Portland-based artist Amy Ruppel, along with a whole slew of new textiles and pillow designs. Even better, it was none other than Design Public (actually, still EDGE*MODERN at the time) that led us to connect with Amy!

After reading a customer profile in the EDGE*MODERN newsletter about Amy and how much she loved the E*M product offerings, Gary (aka: “Eleventwentyfive north”) visited her website and ended up purchasing one of her paintings. The next step was an email to me (aka: “Eleventwentyfive south”) saying “You’ve gotta check out this artist.” I could easily see how her designs could work well as textile patterns, so I made the trip up to Portland to meet her (and got an insider’s tour of the city as an added bonus!). Amy's owl paintings

Amy is the perfect example of the sort of artist we enjoy working with most – having a thriving studio practice as well as a strong graphic-design sensibility that easily lends itself to product design. We love the Owl Flower pillows for their contemporary look combined with a retro-70s palette as much as we love leading art/design lovers to the discovery of another fresh, young talent. The icing on the cake is seeing the pillows on the site that put us together in the first place!

Thanks, Design Public!
