Decorating your nursery for resale

Lizabeth Sorensen writes the “Daily Stroll”, a daily article profiling new designers and boutiques delivering style, humor and exclusive promotions on hot products for mama and baby. Her website is also supported by a blog and forum in which mothers from all over the world share their experiences and favorite products.

We are thinking of putting our house on the market. I should be afraid of the comments from potential buyers trampling through our home making remarks about each detail, but I am not.

Maybe it is my addiction to home improvement shows. I watch that one show about how to get your house ready for sale, and I see the awful things buyers say when they do not know they are being filmed – I never wanted that to happen so I try to plan ahead. We knew that we would spend a few years in our first home and then “roll it”. When we found out we were having a baby, the designer in me was beaming at the idea of planning her nursery, however the thought in the back of my mind was ‘how do I please picky potential buyers?’.

The answer? We designed our baby’s room so that it was sweet and perfectly babyish without being too over the top. This is a good thing to keep in mind when you are shopping for baby furniture, picking out paint and deciding on a theme for your future nursery. With a can of key lime paint and fresh white crown moldings and baseboards our daughter’s room was a canvas for modern furniture, and it allows us to switch out bedding on a whim if she wears out her current set.

The best part? Should our house sell, it turns instantly from nursery to office or guest room in the mind of the buyers. No icky teddy bear border removal required.
