A New Favorite: The Strut Table from Blu Dot.

The designers over at Blu Dot have really outdone themselves this time. The shocking watermelon shade of their new Strut table bowled me over. Next I admired the carefully thought-out geometry. Check out all the angles in the zoom shots; it’s a play between rectangles, squares, and triangles.

Choosing between watermelon, robins egg blue, ivory and dark olive will not be easy. Try thinking about chair choices (or your existing chairs) at the same time. You can match, contrast, and/or coordinate when it comes to colors, materials and geometry. Chairs by Panton, Material Furniture and Offi will offer contrasting shapes and materials. Many of the more rectilinear Emeco chairs will complement the table shape and match the steel material and powder coat finish. Here are a few combos I am playing with (warning, a lot of these are not for the meek):

Here are some that play with contrasting shapes and/or materials but have more conservative color combos:

Walnut Knock Down Drag Out Chairs with Ivory Strut
Black Panton Chairs with Ivory Strut
Birch Skool Chairs with Dark Olive Strut
White Emeco Heritage Chairs with Robins Egg Blue Strut

You might need to wear sunglasses to experience some of these:

Red Emeco Hudson Chairs with Robin’s Egg Blue Strut
Yellow Panton Chairs with Dark Olive Strut
Blue Emeco Navy Chairs with Watermelon Strut
Purple Panton Chairs with Robin’s Egg Blue Strut
A mix of Red and Yellow Panton Chairs with an Ivory Strut.

To do it yourself the old-school way, just print out pictures of the tables and chairs and mix and match. Don’t forget to scribble down the materials on top of the images. Of course, you can always mix and match chairs as well – a set of six matching ones can be boring. Remember, no rules apply, just go with your instincts.
